A DA Consulting Engineers South Africa was estab- lished in 2003 and offers professional consulting engineering services to clients in the development of industrial, commercial and public projects in the civil and structural disciplines. Employing 15 full time personnel, ADA strives to provide professional consulting engineering services of the highest quality, with a core focus on Civil and Structural Engineering. This is achieved through proactive participation with the project professional team and ongoing development of the organisa- tion’s human and technical resources. Having worked on award-winning projects ADA has a rep- utation for service excellence, integrity, innovative-thinking, passion and dedication as well as a strong focus on ownership, being responsible for the success of its team, clients and company. In line with its membership of CESA the company subscribes to the organisation’s code of conduct and follows ISO 9000 quality management guidelines. The upliftment of the commu- nity in which it operates and the training and development of its staff is important to ADA and the company places a strong emphasis on mentoring and the development of its staff and young engineering students. In-student training is exclusively provided to black previously disadvantaged students. In addition, ADA partners with other Built Environment companies providing senior resources with industry expertise to assist in upskilling and mentoring previously disadvantaged young engineers. z

V edanta Zinc International (VZI), of which Black Mountain Mining (BMM) is a subsidiary, is a Naidoo bought Black Mountain Mine, in one of the poorest under-developed regions of the country, and turned it into a leading example of diversity and innovation in mining. Once the mine reaches full production in approximately five years it is estimated that it will generate USD4-5-million per annum. Black Mountain Mine mines zinc, lead, silver and copper, hoisting 1,7 Mt of ore a year, and has a production capacity of 90 000 t per annum metal-in-concentrate. BMM is one the largest private sector employers in the Northern Cape, employing around 1 500 people at the current operations, and a further 1 500 people at the Gamsberg Project (employees and business partner employees). Around 80% of BMM’s employees are from the Northern Cape, including 60% from the Namaqua district (Khai-Ma and Nama Khoi municipal areas). VZI’s vision of the Black Mountain Complex is an operation where all stakeholders, employees, business partners and their families can thrive. To facilitate this, VZI fosters the economic and social development of the Northern Cape and Namibia. The work is guided by VZI’s Sustainable Development Framework, which governs the ethical and transparent approach across diverse geographies and businesses. BMC will uphold VZI’s sustainable principles and zero offset agreement in partnership with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), ensuring the preservation and protection of the natural environment within its custodianship. VZI will expand its operations to produce 800 000 tpa of metal at a cost of 850USD/t, for at least the next 30 years.
