YOUNG ENGINEER OF THE YEAR

WINNER JESHIKA RAMCHUND IS a Professional Engineer with 11 years of experience in the planning, design and implementation of infrastructure. She is currently the Lead Engineer at Bosch Projects. She graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2007 with a degree in Civil Engineering and is currently completing a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering at the same institution. Jeshika joined Bosch Projects as Project Leader on a large, multi-year, multi- phase, award-winning project for the eThekwini Municipality. She went on to lead a large private sector land development portfolio. In her current position, Jeshika’s role is to expand Bosch Projects’ market reach into integrated and smart developments and to continue to motivate and grow her teams. Jeshika has demonstrated a zest for mentorship where, alongside senior management, she kick-started the Bosch Interact programme. She has held numerous portfolios at Consulting Engineers South Africa, Group of African Member Associations and the International Federation of Consulting Engi- neers. Jeshika was selected as one of Mail and Guardian’s 200 Young South Africans to watch for 2018 and recently won the category of Engineering Young Professional of the Year for 2018 at the South African Profession- al Services Awards. z

DR TONY IGBOAMALU is a registered chemical engineer based at Aurecon South Africa’s Tshwane office. He has achieved extensive recognition for his achievements as a water process engineer and is currently involved in the planning, design and construction to provide sustainable water supply, sanitation and environmentally strategic solutions for projects across Africa. Tony completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Pretoria in 2019. He obtained a Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering: Water Utilisation (with distinction) in 2014, as well as a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Science in Chemical Engineering: Water Utilisation (with distinction) in 2011 from the University of Pretoria. He also holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from Anambra State University in Uli, Nigeria and is currently in the process of obtaining his project management certification.

A professional engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), Tony is also a graduate member of Engineering New Zealand, and a member of the Consulting Engineers of South Africa (CESA) Young Professionals Forum. Tony’s deep understanding of the link between water and the alleviation of poverty lay the foundation of his passion for helping ensure that the continent’s future generations have access to clean water and sanitation. In his capacity as a chemical engineer, Tony has made tremendously positive contributions to the industry, with a strong focus on improving the health and wellbeing of ordinary citizens through the provision of clean water. Tony has natural leadership and communication skills, which has seen him glean a tremendous amount of respect from his colleagues and mentees during his career. His passion for using engineering to improve communities, leadership capabilities and impressive technical achievements make Tony a worthy recipient of a Commendation for the Young Engineer of the Year Award. z
