New SANY loader for mining

Goscor Earth Moving (GEM), part of the Goscor Group, is making its presence felt in the mining industry with the launch of a new front-end loader said to offer end users the lowest total cost of ownership. With a bucket capacity of 2,7 to 4,5 m³, the SYL956H1 front-end loader is ideal for heavy-duty mining operations, says Andre Steenkamp, GEM sales director. Its drive system features a rotary automatic gearbox that boosts travel speed by 10% and increases towing force by over 6%, compared with its predecessor. The rated load is 5 000 kg, rated power is 162 kW and the maximum lifting force is 172 kN. The high-pressure fixed variable conflu- ence hydraulic system ramps up operating efficiency by over 12%, while total fuel consumption is slashed by more than 15%. The panoramic super-large cab has a noise level of only 75 dBa for enhanced operator comfort, together with features such as an adjustable suspended seat, and a multi-directional spatial air-condi- tioner for both heating and cooling. The fingertip-operation pilot system has been configured with a variety of functional buttons in the cab. Key com- Jan Steyn, Plant Director at Liviero Min- ing, was one of a number of executives from major South African mining and construction houses that recently returned from an intensive fact-finding visit to Komatsu headquarters in Japan. Liviero Mining is a subsidiary of the Liviero Group, claimed to be the country’s largest black-owned multidisciplinary construction and mining organisation. It gained entry to the mining industry in 2012, and has since made impressive strides into the coal sector. The current fleet is made up of a wide range of open- cast equipment that collectively moves in the region of 40 million banked cubic meters of material a year. Recently, Liviero elected to increase its dozer fleet to raise output at its two major coal-producing sites: Tweefontein where it provides contracting services for Glencore and Vanggatfontein, which it manages for Keaton Energy Holdings. “Independent assessments based on performance, efficiency and cost consider- ations made the Komatsu 475 the obvious KEY FIGURES

ponents such as the DANA gearbox and heavy-duty structural members result in an extended service life of up to 10 000 hours. Safety features include a fully-hy- draulic service brake, electrically-con- trolled parking brake and a cab with FOPS and ROPS functions. “We expect SANY’s market share in South

Africa to increase significantly as a result of the distribution agreement concluded with GEM,” says Barry Owen, MD of GEM. “Mining is recovering, and while the South African economy has been continuously weak for years, it should come to the point where it bounces back a little.” b

product of choice, not only in terms of mining productivity but as an essential tool for planned longer-term rehabilitation projects,” says Steyn, adding that another important consideration in light of produc- tion pressures was that Komatsu could provide prompt delivery.

“A total of two D475s are now in ser- vice following a seamless delivery, com- missioning and operator training process, and early indications are that the dozers are not merely performing to expectation but have endeared themselves to Liviero operators,” he says. b
