ELAINE’S BACKGROUND Elaine Crewe was appointed by Messe München GmbH to lead its newly established Messe München South Africa subsidiary in 2012, just ahead of the inaugural bauma Africa which took place from September 18 to 21, 2013, in Johannesburg. Crewe has extensive experience in the organisation of events and trade exhibitions. Prior to her appointment to lead Messe München’s African ventures, she had been working for the Ghallager Convention Centre, one of the largest conference and exhibition venues in Africa, since 2006, where, at the time of her departure, she was the exhibition manager of the organisation, responsible for the coordination of all exhibitions and special events.

SIGNALLING POSITIVE VIBES

Munesu Shoko (MS): We are about a year before the third edition of bauma CONEXPO AFRICA. How are the preparations going at this stage? Elaine Crewe (EC): Preparations are going very well; both local and international interest has grown due to the success of the first two editions of the trade fair. MS: What are some of the new key initiatives lined up for next year’s show? EC: As we have now moved into a three-year cycle, we are encouraging our exhibitors to show off their latest innovations.
