The Scania Next Generation range has made its South African debut.

Driving efficiencies At a time when the trucking industry is facing increasing demands for sustainable and cost- effective operation, Scania South Africa’s newly-launched New Generation truck range drives higher standards of efficiency, writes Munesu Shoko .

A t a glamorous event held at Monte Casino in Johannesburg, South Africa, on May 21, Scania South Africa introduced its New Generation truck range to the local market. Speaking at the launch, Raimo Lehtiö, MD of Scania Southern Africa, said with the new range, which represents the larg- est ever investment in Scania’s 125-year history, the truck maker’s major focus is to give its customers the tools they need to achieve profitability in their businesses. Following an extensive analysis of the multi-faceted trucking industry, Scania has developed a comprehensive range to meet the highly diverse transport assignments. “The result of 10 years of development work and investments of over €2-billion, the new truck generation builds on the values, strategies and innovations, which for the past 125 years, have made Scania an industry leader,” says Lehtiö. “The introduction of the New Generation range marks the start of a targeted offensive with tailor-made solutions focused on meeting the demands of our trucking customers in the local environment. We are putting a higher emphasis on the customer’s business – the only business that matters,” says Lehtiö.

In an environment where fuel prices continue to soar, the new truck range has been designed for greater fuel efficiency through improved powertrains and better aerodynamics. This has resulted in up to 5% better fuel efficiency compared with the previous range. Wide range The range comes in 24 different cab models. The new S-series raises the stakes in long-distance driver comfort with an interior that is said to be a haven of luxury. The S-series offers great spaciousness, flat floor and extended storage. With engine power ranging between 410 and 560 hp, it is said to be the obvious choice for the longest transports. The R-Cab is sturdier yet sharper than ever with an athletic body that redefines premium in the long haulage space. It has an engine range of 410 to 560 hp. The new G-series trucks are highly adaptable with outstanding driveability and visibility. The mid-size cab is suitable for a wide range of applications. It has an engine range from 360 to 460 hp.
