F or over 46 six years, Rand-Air, part of the Atlas Copco group, has set the bar high in the local compressor rental market. The offering was further diversified 20 years ago with the inclusion of generator rental services. As Kim Coetzee, sales manager at Rand-Air, puts it, one of the critical factors to the growth of the company over the years has been the under- standing of the customer and constant reinvention of the company, informed by “how to do better than yesterday”. Driven by its understanding of the significance of aligning and supporting customer priorities, Rand-Air has made a multi- million rand investment into the expansion of its fleet. “In order to address growing customer demand, we added 52 new generators to our fleet in 2018. These were supplied by Rand-Air’s parent company, Atlas Copco. The units range in power output from 60 kVA right up to 500 kVA,” says Coetzee. She adds that the investment was more of fleet expansion than a renewal. “However, we have continuously over the years replenished our fleet. The company monitors its fleet to ensure all equipment complies with the very highest standards of safety, quality and reliability – for which Rand-Air has been renowned for since its inception in 1973,” adds Coetzee. More generators Further to that investment, Rand-Air has since added more than 40 new generators. The new fleet – over 20 small KVAs and 20 light set (a generator and a light tower in one) – is partly for general hire and partly a project-specific investment for two long- term contracts. One project is an 18-month contract, and the other is for three years. Apart from the smaller range, Rand-Air also has on order the larger 1 100 kVA Twin Power generator from Atlas Copco’s Brazil In response to growing customer demand and as part of its continuous cycle of revitalising its fleet, Rand-Air, South Africa’s leader in portable air compressors and generator rental, has completed a multi- million fleet expansion programme. Of note is that the new fleet closes some crucial gaps in the market with some new innovative products that set new standards in the compressor and generator rental market. By Munesu Shoko .
