Driving new trucking standards

FUSO Trucks Southern Africa has officially unveiled its latest and smallest addition to its Canter Lift range – the FE4-130TF with a gross vehicle mass of 4,9 t. A major talking point is the DUONIC transmission, the first automated dual-clutch type transmission to be incorporated on a commercial vehicle in the world, writes Munesu Shoko.

With its 4,9 t gross vehicle mass, the FE4-130TF is the smallest model in FUSO Trucks Southern Africa’s range.

A s part of its relentless product expansion programme, which gathered pace as far back as 2014 with the launch of its Canter Lift range, FUSO Trucks Southern Africa has once again added a new addition to the ever growing Canter Lift family, the FE4-130TF, the smallest model in the range with a 4,9 t gross vehicle mass (GVM). The introduction of the FE4-130TF forms part of FUSO Trucks Southern Africa’s strategy to at least launch a new product

every year. “The continued launch of new products in the local market is informed by the need to address gaps in our current product portfolio,” says Ziyad Gaba, Head of FUSO Trucks Southern Africa. Mpho Matseba, marketing manager at FUSO Trucks Southern Africa, says it has been a consistent and progressive journey in terms of product launches since 2014, adding that the FE4-130TF becomes the smallest and fourth model in the Canter Lift range, joining the existing FE6-130TF with a 6 t GVM, the FE7-150TF with a GVM of 7,5 t and the FE8-150TF coming in at 8,5 t of GVM. The 4x2 FUSO FE4-130 is available in both manual (the FE4-130 TF MT, with five forward gears) and automated manual transmission (the FE4-130 TF AMT, offering six forward gears). The major talking point is the dual wet-type clutch on the automated transmission version. Dubbed DUONIC, the dual-clutch transmission is the first automated dual-clutch type transmission to be incorporated on a commercial vehicle in the world. “This is a world first in trucks. We are the first and only OEM that has so far introduced a wet-type clutch transmission on a truck,” says Matseba.
