HPE Africa to distribute McCloskey in southern Africa

McCloskey International has appointed High Power Equipment (HPE) Africa as the exclusive distributor of its full range of equipment in southern Africa, including jaw, cone and impact (horizontal and vertical) crushers; trommel and vibrating screeners; stacking conveyors and washing systems. “Through our branch and distributor McCloskey range, which is supported by the HPE Africa team,” says Alex Ackron, MD of HPE Africa. “McCloskey equipment is known for easy operation, high efficiency, low maintenance requirements and extended service life – even in tough conditions.” “The machines are used across several industries, including aggregates, mining, quarrying, waste management and recycling, construction and demolition, as well as infrastructure projects, road building and landscaping,” adds Ackron. The first McCloskey stock units – the J45 jaw crusher and the R155 screen – have recently been delivered at HPE Africa’s head offices in Gauteng, South Africa. The R155 is said to be a robust screening machine that is able to network, the local market now has improved accessibility to the Tough economic times have unintended consequences, and one which is now starting to show is the installation of budget transfer systems. This is according to Mark Baller, MD of Weba Chute Systems, who says that the company has been called upon by a number of operators to replace chute systems that have simply not made the grade in terms of performance or wear life. “The bottom line is that plants have cut corners in terms of transfer points, and it is now starting to cost them significantly in unplanned downtime, reduced throughput and unnecessary maintenance,” says Baller. Baller says that watching from the side lines, the company has seen many mines opting for the most inexpensive chute as a way of reducing capital costs, but that this strategy has not paid the expected dividends. “In fact, the opposite is true with these plants experiencing substantially higher total cost of ownership,” he says.

cope with difficult applications by minimising material pre-handling and providing clean end-products. Typical applications include site reclamation, construction and demolition waste. The screen is also renowned for working with difficult materials such as heavy rock, sticky clay and fines, as well as boulder clay. The McCloskey J45 jaw crusher, with a 45” x 27” jaw, ensures efficient handling of materials in arduous environments. The versatile jaw crusher has both level and load sensors as standard, making it ideal for all crushing applications. “Other features of the J45 include He puts forward the case for engineered custom transfer solutions and can point to numerous examples where chute systems that are tailored for specific applications have reduced all sorts of issues including blockages, high maintenance, spillage, noise and dust. The engineered Weba Chutes reduce operating costs with most chutes giving a full return on investment within 18 months. “Although Weba Chute Systems may appear relatively simple and straightforward to produce, these bespoke solutions take a number of hours to engineer. We find that mines are now more open to comprehending that when it comes to chute systems it is not about the initial purchase price but more about the total cost of ownership,” Baller says. Year of experience, hard won expertise and skill are the major differentiators that allow Weba Chute Systems to

a heavy-duty bofar grizzly design and pan feeder chutes with steeper angles, designed to reduce material sticking. A high-capacity hopper with 6 m³ capacity is mounted over a vibrating feeder. The main conveyor is fitted with heavy-duty skirting, positioned close to ground level, for ease of access and maintenance,” says Ackron. HPE Africa is also the existing distributor of the Hyundai range of earthmoving equipment, as well as the Soosan hydraulic hammers, in southern Africa, and Ackron believes the McCloskey range will complement the existing line of equipment in the HPE Africa stable. b

produce transfer point systems engineered specifically for a given application requirement. Transfer points are definitely not off-the-shelf products and Baller asserts that while anyone can do the basics when it come to the technical side of designing a transfer chute, it is not an exact science and there is simply no single solution for materials transfer. b
