SCREENING

A lthough commodity prices have seen a slight recovery in 2017, investment in the mining industry in sub-Sa- haran Africa remains cautious. Continued innovation in the industry is key, especially in an environment where business expan- sion is very tentative and costs still need to be tightly controlled. As these pressures build, both mining and quarry operators are relooking their equipment and are placing more focus on maximising efficiency and productivity to maintain, or even, improve their bottom lines. Consequently, there is a greater focus on integrated processing solutions, especially screening technology, which is deemed the mainstay of a mill circuit. Reiterating the importance of screening technology, Corné Kleyn, Product Manager – Trio and Enduron Comminution Equipment at Weir Minerals Africa, says screens perform various critical functions in the milling circuit, including protection of downstream equipment, product gradation, dewatering feed stocks

KEY TALKING POINTS

Efficient screening ensures an accurate size range of material feed to the milling circuit

Selecting appropriate screening technology is absolutely critical to ensure the screen operates reliably and efficiently

The cost of equipment, not only in terms of capital cost, but also operating and maintaining it during the expected lifecycle of the plant, should be a primary con- sideration when buying a screen

Technology has changed dramatically and is enabling end users to accurately determine requirements both in terms of equipment and screen types
