Ushering in a new era

At the beginning of this year, Melker Jernberg started his Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) presidency, and just over six months into the job, Munesu Shoko caught up with him at Volvo Days to discuss a range of issues, including his immediate plans, the state of the market, product development strategy and the future of the business.

Munesu Shoko [MS] : With over six months into the job, what have been some of your immediate priorities? Melker Jernberg [MJ]: When starting a new role, obviously a lot of focus goes into trying to understand the business, and that has been a focal point for me. I have done that through a number of ways, but largely by means of extensive travelling during the first six months of the job, visiting many of our dealers and customers around the world. However, I am still to embark on many more dealer

visits during the second half of the year. Despite the fact that I haven’t visited all the 212 Volvo CE dealers yet, I have somehow met the majority of them at several industry exhibitions and our own in-house product launch events. It has been a fantastic start to my tenure, not only because we are in a good business cycle as a company, but in general, the product, the people and the direction the business wants to take, are all things that excite me. I am thrilled to be part of such a professional organisation with a warm group of people.
