New Hyundai R850LC-9 excavators excel in southern Africa

in construction equipment. This initiative encompasses the regular launch of new machines, with specific advancements and modifications, to meet exact South African operating conditions and customer require- ments,” says Alex Ackron, MD of HPE Africa. “Hyundai R850LC-9 machines, which replace the R800LC-9 model, have recently been introduced locally by HPE Africa. The excavators, which are partially assembled on arrival, are constructed to exact customer requirements. Components like the dipper, boom, counterweight, bucket, hammer piping and side rails, are imported loose and are proudly assembled by the HPE Africa team.” Several R850LC-9 machines are hard at work in southern Africa, operating efficiently, for example, around the clock for Basil Read in difficult conditions at

A newly-designed pump compartment controls functions like two speed travel, power boost, auto boom-swing priority and a safety lock. The strengthened undercarriage improves performance of the machines in arduous operating conditions, particularly in mining and quarrying sectors. Durable covers have been specially designed for these machines to protect travel motors and hoses against damage from rocks. b

Newly-launched Hyundai R850LC-9 excavators – designed for high power and superior performance – are said to be excelling in tough southern African conditions. “HPE Africa’s commitment to the local market is to keep abreast with global trends

75 t SANY excavator for mining

Goscor Earth Moving (GEM), part of the Goscor Group, and official distributor of SANY, has launched the SY750 excavator in the local market. It is a primary loading tool for the mining industry, from opencast to alluvial diamond mining. The 75 t excavator is ideal for loading blasted material onto dump trucks, as well as for stripping top soil and free digging, according to Andre Steenkamp, GM of the SANY range under GEM. Its 4,2 m³ bucket means that a 40 t ADT can be loaded in less than seven passes. “This is a highly affordable, large excavator.” Such has been the success of the SY750 to date that only the second unit to be imported from China by GEM has already been pre-sold. In addition, a major Zambian copper mine has ordered four units on a trial basis, and has been so successful that it has ordered an additional six units. “The SY750 will definitely carve a niche for itself in the market, due to its reliable power source and impeccable Epiroc has won significant mining equipment orders from Murray & Roberts Cementation (Pty) Limited in South Africa. Murray & Roberts Cementation recent- ly ordered multiple drill rigs to be used for the underground production build-up of the Kalagadi Manganese mine in South Africa’s Northern Cape Province. The machines will ensure that the mine is operated with enhanced productivity, safety and cost efficiency. The orders

forward to building a productive and supportive relationship with Epiroc on the Kalagadi Mine,” says Otto Fourie, Murray & Roberts Cementation’s project executive for the Northern Cape. The orders include Boomer 282 face drilling rigs and Boltec 235 bolting machines. There will also be rock drilling tools, spare parts and on-site service support to back up Murray & Roberts Cementation. b standard warranty allows for care-free digging for the first 18 months, or 3 000 hours, whichever comes first. The SY750 has a maximum digging depth of 7 620 mm, and a maximum excavating distance of 12 050 mm. The maximum digging height is 11 200 mm, while the max- imum dumping height is 7 250 mm. It has a 7 m boom and a 3 m arm. This translates into a bucket digging force of 402 kN and an arm digging force of 345 kN. b

back-up from GEM,” says Steenkamp. The Isuzu 6WG1X engine delivers a maximum torque of 2 138 Nm at 1 500 rpm. “Hence the excavator has sufficient horsepower to get the job done quietly and efficiently and, perhaps most importantly, without breaking the bank.” The SY750 features a self-diagnostic system that flags any technical issues quickly, thereby reducing downtime. The total more than R160-million, of which more than half was placed in the third quarter of 2018. “We are happy to be a key partner to Murray & Roberts Cementation as it expands productivity in the mine in the most cost efficient and safe manner possible,” says Helena Hedblom, Epiroc’s senior executive vice-president, Mining and Infrastructure. “Murray & Roberts Cementation looks
