At an event that was highly anticipated and attended by in excess of 600 guests, Scania Southern Africa introduced the trucking industry to a completely new truck range. This is the result of more than a decade’s research and investments – the biggest in Scania’s history.

Perfect for challenging construction industry The construction industry is facing increasing demands for sustainable and cost-effective production. Enter Scania’s New Generation trucks. With the powerful line-up, Scania’s new generation trucks are ready for the toughest construction tasks and well prepared to meet the highly diverse transport needs of this sector. Simply put: Scania has the right products, the right services, and the right skills to help optimise the vehicle perfectly to the customers’ operation. In a time when margins are tight, such optimal solutions are vital. Scania’s construction vehicles derive from its solid history of timeless engineering and extensive field testing in tough conditions. These smart solutions are making construction vehicles safe, more efficient, comfortable and profitable. Three pillars Energy efficiency, alternative fuels and electrification and smart and safe transport are the three pillars that inform everything that Scania does. “This formed the foundation for the design and development of the next truck generation,” says Alexander Vlaskamp, Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing Scania. “In Europe we have a tough target of CO 2 reduction by 2025. This is achievable through alternative fuel and electrification. The result of working towards this target is that Scania has a broad range of alternative fuel vehicles. In South Africa there is potential for the

use alternatively fuels too,” says Vlaskamp. “For Scania, the best litre of fuel is the one never consumed. Therefore we continuously strive to improve vehicles: this new range has more fuel efficient engines, decreased rolling resistance and less air drag in the cabin,” he continues. The decrease in fuel consumption and operational costs is a clear win-win situation. In the 20 months the vehicle has been available in Europe is has won every fuel test it has had. The new truck generation has been on the roads in Europe for some time, with stellar feedback. After its launch in Paris, it received the Truck of the Year award. Since then it has won many awards, amongst these the prestigious 1 000 Point Test the European Truck Challenge and has had 300 successful press tests. Exceeding the benchmark “The Next Generation represents Scania’s biggest product news in over 20 years; outshining everything we have ever done. This is an important milestone, not only for Southern Africa, but for our company globally,” says Anders Friberg: General Manager, Vehicle Sales and Exports. “We are not only launching the physical truck, but also the total transport solution designed around the customers’ business. The solution is driven by emissions, sustainability and giving the customer the necessary to maximise profitability,” Friberg says. He says that Scania has set the benchmark and pushed it even
