efficiency, safety, driver comfort, higher uptime, low running cost – all this to make sure that it achieves the best Total Operating Economy This Truck Generation has been designed, tested and tailored to the needs of the only business that matters – the customers’. Towards a total solutions offering Mark Erasmus, General Manager: Services, unpacks the new truck generation’s service offering. “Scania Maintenance with flexible plans is a tailor-made service which, based on how you use your vehicle, tells you when it is time to visit the workshop, aims to maximise uptime and minimise the risk of unexpected and costly stops. By using data from the vehicle, this will be exactly the right service. This data is based on the route and driving style while factors such as road roughness, fuel quality, and the start and stop frequency are also taken into account. This is used to ascertain how the vehicle must be maintained.” Using real time operational data and advanced algorithms, the system finds the right service for each individual component. Maintenance is scheduled to ensure the longest possible intervals between workshop visits. It is possible to tailor a plan to fit the needs of the customers’ business. These plans are sent to the vehicle fleet management portal at all Scania workshops before the truck arrives to be serviced, Scania does a diagnosis of this to detect and prepare so repairs are done at the same time as a service. Erasmus says there is a full range of maintenance and repair packages available nationally and regionally within the Scania dealer network. The new Scania comes with a standard three year, 600 000 km warranty. “The lower operational costs and harmonised repair and maintenance costs throughout the life cycle of the truck all give the owner peace of mind.” Scania continually invests in its dealer network to support, improve uptime and convenience with maintaining the vehicles. “One of Scania South Africa’s strengths is our service plans are backed by a wholly owned comprehensive network of dealerships in Southern Africa. This offers 37 repair points in seven countries, 22 of these are wholly owned. It offers 250 technicians. We also have 60 onsite servicing and maintenance facilities servicing some 1 380 vehicles. “All trucks in Southern Africa are connected. With the Scania Fleet Management System, we make sure that you get the service schedules and uptime you need, roadside assistance, remote diagnostics, driver training and coaching which ensure the most profitable and efficient use of your fleet,” Erasmus adds. 
