STILL PIONEERS IN LIGHTWEIGHT STEEL ROOFING Construction World spoke to Brandon Harding, CEO of Dezzo Roofing about a roof the company recently erected for a community hall in KwaZulu-Natal that was built by the local municipality.

What was the scope of the project? It was for the design, supply and installing of lightweight steel roof trusses with roof sheets to the hall. Due to budget and time constraints, the client needed a cost effective solution for the roofing component. When did the project start? Confirmation of the order received early March. Production started mid-March with delivery the first week April. Installation will be done by end April (at the time of writing) What products did you supply for this project? We supplied lightweight steel roof trusses with an 18,5 m clear span. Adjacent roofs were covered with timber trusses and mono-pitch steel trusses. Why were these specific products used on this project? Our steel proved more cost effective than the structural steel specification on the project. The production and installation time also matched the client’s tight deadline. What were the challenges on this project? The main challenges centred around the logistics of transporting and handling of the 18,5 m trusses. This resulted in us designing a unique truss configuration. The site, being very rural, and more than 300 km away, meant that no special equipment could be sourced

to help erect the structure. We have a team of five skilled installers working on the roof, equipped with basic tools and infrastructure.In addition, a very short timeline existed for the design, manufacture, supply and installing the roof.
