Building a residential complex in Nigeria Contractor ITB Nigeria is using six COMANSA cranes for the construction of the Azuri Peninsula apartments, developed by Eko Development Company in a brand new city on reclaimed land in Lagos

hoisting speeds with light loads. “Due to the height of the buildings, it has been essential to rely on cranes with high hoist speeds", says Paul Kattar, Tower Crane Manager at ITB Nigeria. “The work cycles of the COMANSA cranes on site are very short, which increase its productivity, and helps us to also shorten work times", adds Kattar. COMANSA’s PowerLift System, which improves the load diagram of the crane by 10%, was significantly used as well. According to Kattar, "The podium of the building is formed mainly by precast elements from 6 to 8 tonnes and concrete beams of different sizes with maximum weights up to 13 tonnes. For its construction, the PowerLift System had to assist us many times in certain operations in which we required a 10% extra capacity". The cranes are working 24 hours a day, lifting steel structures during the daytime and helping with the concrete works during the night. Many weekends, the tower crane team had to move and fix the collars and jack the cranes up to leave them ready before Monday morning. 

T wo SY956H front-end loaders, a SMG200 Grader, a SY500H excavator, and a SY335 excavator have been delivered to Ukubhukuda Trading, whose subsidiaries Tipper & Co and E&J Construction have been contracted to carry out the rehabilitation of the mining area. GEM eMalahleni Sales Executive Lee Sampson comments that the initial relationship with Ukubhukuda Trading was forged in March 2017, when it purchased a SYL956H1 front-end loader and a SY335 excavator. The latter is ideal for mining applications due to the use of high-quality wear-resistant plate for added endurance and reliability. With a maximum digging depth of 6 170 mm, and a transport length of 11,1 m, the SY335 excavator is ideal for the mining, construction, and plant-hire sectors. With a bucket capacity of 2,7 m 3 to 3,2 m 3 standard and a 4,5 m 3 coal bucket, the SYL956H1 front-end loader is ideal for heavy-duty mining operations. The machine’s highly-efficient drive system features a rotary automatic gearbox that boosts travel speed by 10%, and increases towing force by over 6%. The rated load is 5 000 kg, the rated power is 162 kW, and the maximum lifting force is 172 kN. Goscor Earth Moving (GEM) has supplied over R15-million worth of SANY equipment to a construction and rehabilitation company in eMalahleni for a rehabilitation project at the Arnot coal mine in Mpumalanga. T he keys of the 244 luxury apartments of the Azuri Penisnula complex will be amongst the first couple to be handed over of the entire Eko Atlantic project, a spectacular business and residential city under construction on an artificial peninsula in Lagos, the Financial Capital of Nigeria. The State of Lagos and the Chagoury Group are leading this ambitious project that will allow Africa’s most populated country to gain around 10 km 2 of land that was lost to the Atlantic Ocean, hoping to create an important business hub for the entire continent. Azuri Peninsula is being built at the Marina District, one of the new 10 districts of this city and the one that will concentrate most of its leisure opportunities. There are six COMANSA cranes working in this project all which belong to the fleet of the turnkey contractor ITB Nigeria FZE. The machines, all with flat-top design and maximum load capacity of 18 and 20 tonnes, are taking on the construction of the three towers that form the complex, of more than 140 metres in height and up to 32 floors. Among the six cranes, two are model 21LC550, one is a 21LC335 model and the remaining three are 21LC290 model. All of them were erected initially with low heights, but the team from ITB Nigeria used the hydraulic jacking cages in different occasions to jack-up the machines as the buildings were growing taller. The cranes are now working at their maximum height, reaching the tallest up to 163,5 metres. All COMANSA cranes at the Azuri Peninsula project were equipped with the Effi-Plus system, which increases significantly the Equipment for rehabilitation

“As soon as Ukubhukuda Trading commenced with rehabilitation work at Arnot, they purchased an extra two machines, and we are in the process of delivering a further three SYL956H1 front-end loaders,” Sampson reveals. In addition, E&J Construction purchased a SY500H excavator and an additional SYL956H1 front-end loader in May. The former is a Tier 4, 50,5 t excavator with a rated engine power of 298 kW at 2 100 rpm, a bucket capacity of 3,1 m 3 . “We are currently finalising two more deals with E&J Sampson adds. GEM has reconfigured the buckets on the SYL956H1 to increase the size range from 3,2 m 3 to 4,5 m 3 to boost productivity and turnaround time for its mining clients in particular. All the machines supplied by GEM have standard 250-hour service plans. The eMalahleni branch is about 80 km from Arnot, which guarantees that GEM can deploy a team to site within an hour of any breakdown, thus ensuring a rapid response time, which is crucial to minimising any downtime. “We have established a good working relationship

with Ukubhukuda Trading and its subsidiaries to date. Their satisfaction with our SANY machines and GEM service to date is the key reason for the continued orders,” Sampson concludes. 
