GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING

Deep pile foundations for rail-over-road bridge in Saldanha in the Western Cape.

The majority of the piles have been raked at 9,5 degrees due to moments imposed on the bridge. In other words, for a 35-metre pile, the distance from the original pegged platform position down to the toe of the pile, is almost six metres away from the horizontal. The experience of the site team, most recently at the rail-over-road bridge in Saldanha and river bridges in Mpumalanga, meant that the site team were well-versed in dealing with conditions and the best methodology required to make a success of this project. 
