round up ELECTRICAL PROTECTION + SAFETY

40 years of lightning service

- Structural lightning protection systems for domestic and industrial projects, including mining plants - Risk assessment and protection level reports - Soil resistivity surveys so an earth can be designed to exact electrical specification rather than by physical dimensions, based on the Wenner and fall of potential methods - Resistance test measurements on installed earthing systems for structural lightning protection and electrical earthing systems. All installations are done in strict accordance with the SANS Code of Practice 10313 (2012) in conjunction with SANS 62305 and IEC standards. HHK also handles: - Supply and installation of high voltage lightning conductor cable – JP HVC – for protection levels 1 to 4 - Design of lightning protection and earthing systems for structures, substations, computer and data systems, exposed power lines and other facilities, including drawings approved and stamped by SABS - Supply of surge protection for electronic equipment, computers and similar - Maintenance tests on lightning protection and earthing systems on all existing structures, mining plants and other installations - Issuing of Certificates of Compliance on all lightning protection and earthing grid systems. HHK Earthing & Lightning Protection Systems was established in 1976 by Helmut Hermann Kanwischer (HHK). He immigrated to South Africa in the late 1960s and saw the potential in a country with one of the highest ground flash densities of lightning discharges in the world. Starting with a simple secretarial service and a garage, he developed his business plan and through his vision and determination forged the company into what it has become today. HHK is one of the biggest lightning protection and earthing contracting companies in the Southern Africa region and has not changed hands in more than 40 years. With its head office in Johannesburg (Northcliff), the company has eight branch offices nationally and in the neighbouring countries of Botswana and Namibia and employs about 160 people. HHK obtained the SABS Quality Management System listing in October 1987 and has since grown from strength to strength. Kanwischer is also a member of various SANS/IEC committees and working groups concerned with lightning protection, earthing and surge protection standards. HHK provides turnkey solutions including design, soil resistivity surveys, installation, final commissioning and certification, as well as ‘as built’ design drawings approved by SABS for any project from simple golf or bus shelters and residential houses to major structures and mining plants. At present one of the company’s biggest contracts is the Husab Mine Project in Namibia with a turnkey value of over R35 million for the lightning protection and earthing installation. HHK Earthing & Lightning Protection Systems offers the following services:
