ELECTRICAL PROTECTION + SAFETY round up

Lifetime warranty multimeters HellermannTyton offers lifetime warranty on numerous instruments such as the TBM812, a True RMS general purpose multimeter. Because of its CATIV 1000 V rating, this multimeter can be used for measurements per- formed at the source of low-voltage installations. It can be used to meas- ure voltage and current as well as resistance, capacitance and frequency. Being a splash/drop proof device and providing a dual display, the TBM812 multimeter is ideal for Certificate of Conformance (CoC) testing. Features include relative zero mode, which allows the user to offset the consecutive meter measurements with the displaying reading as the reference value. Display readings can be set as relative reference values including maximum/minimum/average readings. The auto-power-off (APO) mode turns the meter off automatically af- ter about 30 minutes of no activity to extend battery life. The meter in-

telligently avoids entering the APO mode when it is under normal measurements. It can be reactivated from APO by pressing the select, range, relative or hold buttons for a few seconds, or turning the rotary switch off and then back on. Pressing the select button for one second or more will turn on the LCD backlight and provide a bright display. The backlight will also be turned off automatically after 32 seconds to extend battery life. The TBM812 comes with a lifetime warranty, which means HellermannTyton will, at its sole dis- cretion, repair or replace the affected multimeter. Enquiries: Ryan Burger at HellermannTyton. Arc flash detection and quenching South African company MCA has recently signed an agreement with leading arc flash detection original equipment manufacturer – Arcteq, which is based in Finland. MCA is now Arcteq’s second South African partner, with a specialist focus on providing solutions in the low voltage arc detection market. The partnership positions MCA, with Arcteq, at the forefront of arc detection and quenching technology. Brian Teeling, Sales Director - MCA Projects, recently visited the Arcteq factory in Finland to undergo training on the implementation and installation of the Arcteq detection and quenching systems. MCA sees low voltage arc flash detection protection systems as key to the future of industry safety, providing protection for equipment and personnel against electrical arc flashing. Arc flash remains one of the biggest risks in electrical installations, especially in low voltage installations where 90% of human interfacing occurs. The installation of arc detection and quenching devices can substantially reduce the incident energy emitted by an arc fault in electrical equipment, in turn reducing the need for employees to wear expensive, bulky personal protective equipment as well as keeping possible damage to equip- ment to a minimum. Arc detection systems can also be fitted to existing installations that pose the highest risk within an operation. Enquiries: Contact BrianTeeling at MCA Projects, email: brian@mcaprojects.co.za
