DRIVES, MOTORS + SWITCHGEAR CABL + ACCE SORIES round up

Cable protectors support safety BMG has extended its range of Coba floor safety products with the intro- duction of new safety mats and accessories to lay over cables in interior and exterior installations. “CablePro cable protectors are designed to reduce the risk of people tripping over loose cables and to prevent damage to the cable and its con- tents,” says Andrew Johns, Business Unit Manager, Tools and Equipment division, BMG. “Trailing cables on a floor surface are a trip hazard and in order to prevent injury and damage, it is important that loose cables are properly protected and insulated, with sufficient warning to pedestrians of potential risk. “BMG specialists work closely with the Coba team to supply durable floor safety products for our customers and to improve safety in all envi- ronments, including the workplace.” The CablePro range of durable cable protectors includes single and mul- tiple channel options as well as special products designed for heavy-traffic areas and larger cables. CablePRO GP, a general-purpose cable protector that accommodates various cables, is available in 3 m or 9 m lengths which can be cut to exact requirements. The hard-wearing material withstands pedestrian and wheeled traffic and is quick and easy to install. A hazard strip version is also available for increased visibility and greater safety in darker environ- ments. The CablePRO Data range comprises multiple channels for telephone, power or Ethernet cables. This system, which reduces the risk of tripping over data cables, is also ideal for keeping multiple cable types separate. The seam in the base is used for efficiently snapping cables. The protec- tors can be cut easily on-site to exact requirements. The range of CablePRO HD cable protectors includes two heavy-duty indoor and outdoor options for areas with a lot of pedestrian movement or where there is a hazard of tripping associated with larger cables. Tough ramped edges are designed to protect cables from wheeled traffic, such as cars and forklifts, and 23 mm diameter channels accommodate larger, heavy-duty cables. The protectors can withstand traffic of up to 6 tons. The CablePRO indoor mat (0.4 m x 1.2 m), with a weight of about 3.95 kg/m² and height of 11.4 mm, is laid over cables for protection against trip- ping hazards associated with loose cables on floor surfaces. The anti-static mat has a durable nylon surface with a cleated non-slip backing made from nitrile rubber and an integrated cable run. The edge has a highly visi- ble hazard warning stripe. The mats are UV and light-resistant and are also suitable for use over underfloor heating. All CablePRO systems are manufactured from a flexible, flame- retardant PVC extrusion compound. Coba floor safety products form part of BMG’s portfolio of safety and personal protection equipment (PPE) which is available from the compa- ny’s extensive branch network. The BMG team offers a technical adviso- ry and support service throughout Southern Africa. Enquiries: Andrew Johns at BMG. Drum reeling HighPerformance drag chain cable from HRADIL Spezialkabel for operations close to the limit.

Drum reeling drag-chain cable for extreme tasks Hradil, a specialist cable engineering firm based in Bietigheim-Bissingen close to Stuttgart, has intro- duced the HighPerformance 43 x 1.5 mm² cable, an extremely robust, drum reeling power supply cable that can be used in drag chains. Its capacity to withstand temperatures from -50°C to +90°C makes it the ideal choice for demanding out- door applications in extreme climatic conditions. The Hradil cable is resistant to ultraviolet rays, ozone, oil and diesel as well as cooling fluids and lubricants. It carries either UL or cUL approvals and passed the VDE’s rigorous test for the requirements of DIN 60811. Designed for a tensile strength of up to 4 000 N, 1.2 million alternating bending cycles, very tight bending radii down to 200 mm and reeling speeds of up to 5 m per second make this cable suitable for applications in- volving especially high mechanical loads. The HighPer- formance cable can be used as a drum reeling cable for gantry and mobile harbour cranes with traversing distances of up to 200 metres. Designed by Hradil’s engineers as a three-layered cable with 43 x 1.5 mm² cores, HighPerformance has an outer diameter of only 22.9 mm. Different banding and shielding in each of the three layers using PTFE foil, PES nonwoven and aramid, helps to shield the cable and relieve tension. The HighPerformance cable is compliant with RoHS as well as a number of general and specific standards. The cable has passed the test procedure according to DIN EN 60811 performed by the VDE. The cable was tested with respect to mechanical properties, thermal aging, water uptake, flame resistance, temperature characteristics, ozone and oil resistance, stress tests on the full cable as well as on cores, insulation resist- ance of the cores, surface resistance of the jacket, UV resistance, VDE alternating bending strength, shore hardness and drag chain requirements.
