New IPC Platform Empowers Engineers with Latest Advances in IT Driaan Coetzer, Omron

The Industrial PC platform (IPC) from Omron has been designed to empower engi- neers to develop machines and factories that are better, safer, and faster by giving them the freedom and flexibility to explore the opportunities provided by modern IT. In addition, the IPC has been designed to meet the requirements of industrial end users for maximum robustness and reliability.

B ased on the guiding principles of power, re- liability, and scalability, the IPC platform is ideally suited to visualisation, data handling, measuring, and controlling. The design-and-build of the technology has been simplified to eliminate any false touches on the touch panel, and an innovative design for unit heat reduction, all to maximise up- time and reduce costs. Unnecessary complexity raises the probability of unnecessary problems, which means it is best to re- move these totally in order to improve reliability and maximise performance. This means the industrial PC platform has no internal cables or heat pipes, struc- turally-uniform mechanics to enable future expan- sion, reduced assembly, maintenance, and labour costs, and rock-solid architecture due to a die-cast aluminium case. Fourth-generation processors: The perfor- mance of the IPC platform is based on fourth-gener- ation Intel Celeron and Intel Core i7 processors. The industrial-quality touch-screen panel PC and monitor allows operators and maintenance engineers to in- teract more effectively with the machine. The touch- screen controller can detect non-standard actions such as false touches, palm detection, water spatter, and cleaning – even if the user is wearing gloves. Machine usage: Designed specifically for ma- chine usage, the IPC Machine Controller combines the utility and precision of the Sysmac platform with the versatility and range of Windows programs. The two platforms operate simultaneously but separate- ly. This means that in any instance where Windows itself is down, the machine’s operation will not be affected. As a result, engineers become much more
