Reliable redundancy in harsh environmental conditions

Siemens is extending its portfolio of net- work components with Scalance W1788 Ac- cess Points, which are designed to facilitate implementation of the current WLAN Stand- ard IEEE 802.11ac Wave 2 in industrial appli- cations. Users will benefit from investment protection for industrial networks, and the assurance of future-proof wireless applica- tions and projects in industrial environments. The standard will enable wireless appli- cations with high bandwidths to be ideally implemented at gigabit data rates – for in- stance to transmit video data or where a high user density is involved. The integrated switch features two managed Ethernet gigabit ports offering wide-ranging networking possibilities such as link aggregation. The industrial feature (iF- eature) iPRP (Industrial Parallel Redundancy Protocol) ensures reliable redundancy via WLAN even in the toughest of ambient con- ditions. Scalance W1788 uses MU-MIMO (Mul- tiuser Multiple Input Multiple Output) tech- nology to structure data flows and achieve higher data transmission rates. The Access Points can be used outside of the control cabinet. Their high IP65 protection class and the screw-fixed M12 and N-Connect enable them to withstand harsh industrial environ- ments. To allow flexible and easy installation, the Scalance W1788 Access Points are avail- able with internal or remote antennas, and come in a number of product variants and designs to suit the relevant application. These include variants with one or two radios for optimum data utilization, or a spe- cial EEC variant for use in enhanced environ- mental conditions for applications such as railways. All Access Points are available in different country variants to facilitate their application around the world. Like all Scalance W components, the new Access Points also come with the fa- miliar parameterization interfaces and a wide range of matching accessories and antennas for every application.
