ENERGY MANAGEMENT + ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

• Do regular water audits to see which areas of your business are using the most water, and monitor the effect of your water saving efforts. • Start a water saving project – it is good visibility for corporate social responsibility projects. • Install water efficient taps or install aerators on existing taps to reduce water flow. • Install water efficient shower heads and encourage two-min- ute showers. • Modify toilets to reduce flushing volumes. • Convert to water-wise landscaping. • If your school, organisation or business has a pool, fit a pool cover to reduce evaporation. round up ENERGY MANAGEMENT + ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

Bringing energy and Internet access to rural communities Under a pilot programme, Winch Energy and iWayAfrica will de- ploy a remote solar kiosk, The Winch Hub (WH®), with integrated VSAT equipment to provide high-quality and affordable broadband connectivity. This will be made available to five communities in Bunjako Island, a fishing village on the shores of Lake Victoria, Uganda. The WH ® is a bespoke containerised off-grid solution de- signed and manufactured by Winch, to provide energy and com- munication services to residential, public and business customers located in rural environments. This pilot is the proof of concept for a larger project of more than 250 hubs and remote power units to be installed in rural villages providing electricity, Wi-Fi, wa- ter pumping and cold storage services to households, schools, health centres and businesses across the country. This effort will be key in helping to accelerate the Ugandan government’s broad-

band strategy, particularly its goal of achieving minimum broadband speeds of 3Mbps and coverage of 100 percent of Uganda’s rural areas by 2020.
