DRIVES, MOTORS + SWITCHGEAR : PRODUCTS + SERVICES

Integrating intelligent drives to the industrial edge Siemens is opening the way to more intelligent drive systems with the integration of its Sinamics drive system to the Siemens Industrial Edge platform. In future, this will make it possible to perform high-frequency data exchange in drive technology using an Edge device. The integration of Sinamics frequency converters to an Edge device enables users of machines and applications to perform complex analyses of data that is already collected in the drive. Machine learning algorithms identify patterns and detect anomalies and their causes, providing early indications of necessary maintenance. This provides for minimising downtime and reducing the consumption of resources. For example, in intralogistics applications the belt tension can be monitored for a storage and retrieval machine. The belts, which are driven by a motor and frequency converter, require a specific tension so that the application runs smoothly. If the visualisation of the data analyses shows irregularities in the drive system, belt maintenance can be triggered promptly. By connecting Sinamics frequency converters to the Industrial Edge platform, Siemens is making drive technology more intelligent and paving the way for new business models. With intelligent drive technology, machine builders can provide application-specific app solutions and digital services, or contractually guarantee the availability of a machine, among other possibilities. The TAL 0473 delivers a nominal power between 400 and 660 kVA at 50 Hz, and from 495 to 825 kVA at 60 Hz. The alternator features a shunt excitation system and an R150 regulator as standard. An AREP+ auxiliary winding excitation system with R180 regulator version is also available to improve transient performances further and provide high overload capacities. It is interchangeable with the TAL 047 (shaft height and feet configuration), and can therefore be coupled with all diesel engines on the market for this power range. Like the entire TAL product range, the TAL 0473 is suitable for all electric power generation applications, except marine applications. It delivers high performance, offering new possibilities to manufacturers of generator sets. The TAL 0473 offers an efficiency of up to 94.9% at specific performance levels, which ranks it among the best in the category. With the new AREP+ excitation system, the TAL 0473 also offers improved transient performance, especially with start-up kVA improvements of up to +15%. The .3 technological platform was first introduced in 2010, providing significant performance improvements, in particular as a result of the revolutionary patented cooling Next generation alternator offers improved performance Nidec Leroy-Somer has launched the TAL 0473, its latest alternator in the range based on the ‘.3’ technological platform. It replaces the TAL 047 and offers improved performance.

Siemens Industrial Edge offers a digitalisation solution that expands automation to include data processing at machine level, by safely moving the intelligence of edge computing and advanced analytics into the manufacturing area. It offers users the opportunity to execute a range of descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive

analytics applications. Cloud connectivity – together with Edge apps created by Siemens, third-party suppliers or users themselves – is used in an integrated hardware and software ecosystem for automation components. Siemens had planned to present a concept study at Hannover Messe 2020, demonstrating the integration of a Sinamics drive system to the Siemens Industrial Edge platform. Despite the event being cancelled this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the development of new technologies continues.

system which optimises the air flow in the machine, limiting hot spots that can damage windings insulation. The level of performance and efficiency achieved makes it possible to offer compact alternators. To match evolving customer needs, the rotor system of the TAL 0473 has also been revised to further improve its inertia characteristics. "This alternator ends a cycle, since it is one of the last in our range which had not yet switched to the .3 platform," saidWenbin Ding, low voltage range Product Manager. "We can now offer the same level of optimised performance on all our low voltage products.” The LSA 47.3, based on the same technologies, will also soon be marketed to replace the current LSA 47.2.
