Clamping down on cable theft in the mining industry Mines looking for an affordable solution to the perennial problem of cable theft need look no further than the cost-effective, easy-to-use, and tamper-proof Ultra-Lok clamping system from Banding & ID Solutions Africa .

and-buckle system, the UL4000-C delivers a finished product that is strong- er than the traditional methods used to se- cure cable. This makes clamping three to five times faster than conventional banding tools when tensioning a band clamp, making the UL4000-C one of the most powerful portable band clamp installation tools on the market. The security of any tradition- al cable installation, such as on a mine site, can be increased significantly by applying a cost-ef- fective Ultra-Lok clamp as frequently as every 150 mm of cable.

Cable theft is a particular hazard on mine sites due to the potential health and safety implica- tions, especially for workers underground, Band- ing & ID Solutions Africa sales representative Matthew Campbell highlights. The costs incurred by cable theft also has a negative impact in reduc- ing proactive maintenance budgets. Ideal for securing cable, the UL4000-C Ultra-Lok application tool has been designed specifically to replace band-and-buckle systems in high-volume applications. Combined with the Ultra-Lok band- Compact, user-friendly lighting Magnet distributes portable Mobiya solar LED lanterns, which have been designed by Schneider Electric as a con- venient, safe and reliable source of energy efficient light- ing. Mobiya TS 170S off-grid portable solar LED lanterns consist of a solar panel and an integrated mobile phone charging facility, with a USB cable with five adaptors. “This compact, user friendly lighting system is particu- larly well suited for use in off-grid households, small shops and for street vendors. Mobiya solar lanterns are also ef- fective in power outages, emergency situations, vehicle or machine breakdowns, as well as for outdoor activities, like camping, fishing and entertaining,” says Brian Howarth, managing director, the Magnet Group. “Apart from the con- venience of having uniform lighting available exactly where and when it is needed, these lamps are equipped with a handy mobile phone charger, with USB ports, enabling us- ers to charge mobile phones any time, at no cost. “These environmentally friendly lanterns do not gener- ate noise or emissions and can be hand carried, even by children. Robust Mobiya lanterns are drop impact resistant from a height of 1,5 m and water resistant up to 0,5 m for one hour.” Enquiries: Samantha MacDonald.Tel. +27 (0) 31 274 1998 or email samantham@magnetgroup.co.za

Smallest wireless energy sensor for monitoring electrical assets

Schneider Electric , the global specialist in energy management and automation, has introduced PowerTag, the smallest wireless energy sensor available, designed to enhance the monitoring of electrical as- sets. PowerTag is built to easily connect to a miniature circuit breaker, in order to add connectivity, and to provide building owners and facility managers with precise, powerful, and real-time data to increase the health of a facility’s strategic assets. Designed for any type of building, the energy sensor easily mon- itors and measures, currents, voltages, power, power factor and en- ergy. This first of its kind connection enables greater availability of electrical assets by providing the ability to better manage critical loads − leading to higher reliability and efficiency of the electrical installation. Data is sent wirelessly to a concentrator to display the data via inbuilt webpages or provide data for larger energy management systems or BMS. Data can also be leveraged to create customised e-mail alarms to assist facility managers with remote monitoring of their assets. “PowerTag provides the innovation to make asset and energy man- agement simpler. The majority of circuit breakers can now be tagged bringing electrical distribution connectivity to a new era. PowerTag can be easily

fitted without the need for com- plex wiring or additional space requirements, in reality it’s a five-minute installation to

add a PowerTag and you’re on and connected.” said James Calmeyer, Vice President for Buildings South Africa at Schneider Electric. Enquiries: Visit www. schneider-electric.com/ powertag
