to fulfil their automation needs and the SMC team collaborated to ensure that the project was carried out seamlessly. From a single, once-off special, or a multiple cabinet order, SMC prides itself on having the resources and expertise to build high quality, fully test- ed control cabinets that deliver outstanding performance and offer peace-of-mind Enquiries:Tel. +27 (0) 11 100 5866 or email sales@smcpneumatics.co.za

In an effort to continuously innovate and provide total engineering solutions while meeting demand, SMC recently expanded its local production offering to include the design and build of electro/ pneu- matic control panels for many industrial applications. From a simple assembly to a complex system, SMC’s sales engineers together with its designer, panel builders and technical teams work with its customers to ensure that panels are designed to specification, within budget and on time. Most recently, SMC’s team worked with a large automotive manufacturer to alleviate labour time and speed up processes by using one of its custom-built panels to match the application. The previous application required that the staff on site had to manually manoeuver two side panels of a vehicle and have these welded onto the chassis. This was proving labour intensive and safety was of concern. The team at SMC found the perfect solution to the problem – an SMC panel which houses control valves and operates CP96 cyl- inders (ISO) and AS flow controls; this allows for an automated process that reduced both welding and labour time. The customer once again looked to SMC as a one-stop supplier Monitoring gas burners Whenever flow of gases need to be adjusted or monitored, KOBOLD, represented locally by Instrotech , has model UTS, a practical and affordable variable area flowmeter for moni- toring gas burners. This compact measuring instrument can be placed at various locations, precisely where required. Model UTS works on the suspended float principle. In the vertically installed flowmeters, the medium flows upwards

New standard in pressure measurement VEGA , a full-range pressure instrumentation supplier, has completely renewed its pressure transmitter portfolio. Developed in accordance with SIL standards, the state-of-the-art VEGABAR 80 family surpass- es most, if not all, sensors on the market. With the 80 series, there are only three process pressure transmitters that cover many appli- cations. The multi-purpose VEGABAR 82 with ceramic measuring cell can meet 60 to 70% of all applications; and the VEGABAR 83 with its metallic measuring cell is ideal for high pressure applications. Last but not least, the VEGABAR 81, with a broad range of chemical seal options, can be deployed whenever high temperature and chemical resistance are required. The instruments of the VEGABAR 80 family consistently followVE- GA’s plics concept, which has been a success story for many years. This standardised instrument platform offers a universal housing, electronics, and adjustment concept for all measurement methods. Whether it is for pressure or level, it facilitates customers’ day-to-day work throughout the entire lifecycle of an instrument – from selection and ordering, to installation and set-up, right through to maintenance and servicing. in the inner borosilicate glass measuring tube and again downwards between the measuring tube and the outer piston made of transparent plastic. Float in the measuring tube provides information on the current flow, which is read on the scale clearly visible thereon. Inlet and outlets are both located at the bottom of the instrument and may easily be accessed via optional adaptor with G ¼ thread on both sides. Measuring ranges for gases range from 0,01... 0,1 Nm3/h to 0,3 ... 3,0 Nm3/h of air. Float and the O-ring seal are available in dif- ferent materials, so that the best suited type can be selected for a wide range of appli- cations. Typical examples include, monitoring supply to gas burners or engines and the supply of laboratory equipment with differ- ent gases. To expand the application range even more, a version with upstream needle valve is also available.
