NOSIPHIWO SIXHASO – HLUMANTOMBAZANA CIVIL AND CONSTRUCTION T/A NGAMELA

H lumantombazana Civil and Construction is a closed corporation that specialises in general building works, road maintenance and training through the construction education and training authority CETA. Hlumantombazana provides construction services to the public as well as the private sector. The director and founder of Hlumantombazana Civil and Construction cc, Nosiphiwo Phamela Msitweni-Sixhaso’s passion is to provide families with their own homes. She grew up in Khayelitsha. At the time there were no formal structures, and only got a brick house when her mother qualified for RDP housing, which was not up to standard. Hlumantombazana Civil and Construction has been recognised and received the few awards and we have took part in NHBRRC WOMEN EMPOWERMENT Programme. • Impumelelo Top Empowered Companies “In recognition of their commitment to transformation for the year 2016” • SAFCEC Presidential Award “In recognition of most improved female-owned emerging member company 2017” • Govan Mbeki Award 2018 “In recognition of best emerging woman contractor 2018” From the year 2016 till 2019, Sixhaso served on the South African Women in Construction & Built Environment of Western Cape Board as the treasure and is currently serving on the National Council of the South African Forum of Civil Engineering Contractors (SAFCEC). When Sixhaso registered the company she had no mentor or even a person who had the willingness to guide her on how to run and manage a company. As a result she faced many challenges even delayed to start trading. This has led her to take the decision of mentoring young women who are new in the construction industry. The company took the initiative of

developing a mentorship programme taken from its company Hlumantombazana Mentorship Programme which seeks to identity and mentor young women and women in general, offering work space and assisting them on how to be compliant, how to complete tendering documents, share networks and referrals to relevant departments and institutions that can assist them with skills and capacity building. Hlumantombazana has transferred skills and experience to other emerging contractors and procures from local suppliers and acquired the services of a local accountant. The construction education and training authority CETA has entered into a contract with the company for the hosting of 10 bursary students and to identify and upskill young people in different construction skills (learnership and short skills). Its office is currently hosting three interns: one as management assistant and the other two for information and technology internships. 
