YOUNG-OWNED WOMAN CONTRACTOR OF THE YEAR

SIHLE MAKHANYA – MAKHANYA TRADING & PROJECTS

M akhanya Trading & Projects was founded in 2015 by Sihle Makhanya, initially focusing on general building, plumbing, water and sanitation. As of 2015 Makhanya Trading & Projects (MTP) is 100% young black female owned contractor whose primary focus in the civil engineering sector is bulk concrete works; concrete joints inclusive of asphalt joints and roads. Makhanya Trading & Projects is based in Empangeni

in KwaZulu-Natal. It is entering the ERWIC Awards for the Upgrade of 33 km of National Route N2 between Mthunizini Toll Plaza and Empangeni T-junction for the construction of concrete lined open drains where the company was a sub- contractor for Concor Infrastructure while the client was SANRAL SOC. Makhanya Trading & Projects contributed positively to the project through the construction of the V-drains which was done using slip forming. The mechanisation of this task has

ensured consistent quality and eliminated wastage, saving both on time and cost. This innovative time and concrete saving technique is the future of technology in construction, most specifically for bulk concrete contracts for our country. “This contract was under SANRAL’s CPG program which gave us the opportunity to also grow our name, exposure in the industry and most importantly have a transfer of skills to our employees,” says Makhanya. 
