Schréder and Huawei: strategic partnership At the Eighth Global Mobile Broadband Forum, Huawei, with leading global outdoor lighting solutions provider Schréder, launched the Shuffle Site, a multi-functional light col- umn co-developed by the two companies. Shuffle Site is based on the modular Shuffle lighting-based system and the Huawei out- door small cell to ensure that next-generation connectivity is accessible to everyone. The Shuffle Site attracted worldwide attention from operators and key industry customers as soon as it was presented at the Forum Summit.

For the past year, Schréder and Huawei have been collaborating to incorporate Hua- wei’s outdoor integration station into the Shuffle, and they have now launched the Shuffle Site. The Shuffle Site will enable cities to improve their 4G coverage and increase net- work capacity in an inconspicuous manner. This refined column blends into the urban environment, eliminating eyesores that can upset residents. They will also be able to fu- ture proof the infrastructure for 5G coverage. At the Global Mobile Broadband Forum, the two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for further strategic co-operation that will enable the two sides to co-develop solutions that will light and connect cities.

Mobile broadband technology is con- tinually developing – changing people's daily lives and introducing new business. An ever-increasing number of smart devices and wireless users has led to an explosion in traffic consumption. Operators need to deliver massive capacity and connectivity, yet it is very difficult to acquire a site in a dense urban area with the traditional site solution. With street lights available almost ev- erywhere in a city, connected to a power supply and regularly serviced, they are the ideal multi-application platform for smart city development. Schréder launched the modular Shuffle lighting-based system in 2015. Its programming software allows lighting system managers to adjust operating value settings – such as CCT, current and dimming levels – to create optimised lighting environments. Samsung’s PMD has become a key element in a growing number of smart lighting systems as it can quickly be linked to a wide range of control modules and sensors through the use of a 24 V auxiliary power supply, eliminating the need for an additional power source. Moreover, it can be adjusted in 1 mA increments, enabling more efficient inventory management for luminaire manufacturers.

Samsung’s PMD features two-channel driving, allowing luminaires to tune colour temperature (CCT) and dim light output. For example, to control a luminaire with warmwhite and cool white modules, previously a separate driver was needed for each colour temperature as well as a controller to con- nect the two drivers to a single dimmer. However, with Samsung’s award-winning PMD, a luminaire only needs to be wired to the PMD to fine-tune the CCT and control dimming.This dual role adds to the simplicity and convenience of everyday lighting en- vironments in an extensive number of applications ranging from commercial to architectural lighting.
