Paris-based SCMP Design Office picked up an Interieur Award for its lighting system that draws on the aesthetics of the International Space Station and contemporary aeronautics. Dorval is available as a pendant light, a track lighting array, and a table light. Each version features the same 11 x 11 cm head made from a single piece of powder-coated aluminium. The pendant light, the first design in the series, features four of these heads arranged around a cylinder that is fixed to a rectangular core with rounded edges, like elements on a satellite or space station. Each head can be angled to redirect the light, and the cylinder can pivot to change the array. The pendant light was originally made as a prototype for a gallery commission. SIMES brick light brightens your projects

With the SIMES ‘Brick Light’, light becomes archi- tecture. The luminaire revolutionises the structural material by replicating and bettering its versatile, economical, robust, refractory and aesthetic char- acteristics. The result brings a new materiality to the shape of a brick, one that literally lights up a project. With five exposed faces with ice-etched finishes, SIMES ‘Brick Light’ aims to be decorative as well as structural. Its moulding method creates a rugged aesthetic that deliberately looks imperfect as a result of its craftsmanship, much like a typical exposed brick. With perfect modularity, the design easily interlocks to ensure it fits with the regular building construction. It is capable of bearing almost double the load capacity as a normal brick (100 N), whilst the quality LED light inside transmits for an average of 30 000 to 100 000 hours.

New York design studio Trueing has launched its first lighting collection, fea- turing three colourful glass products that blend clean lines and geometric compo- nents. Trueing's debut range is made up of the Elma, Inigo and Janus – each com- prising combinations of glass and metal in simple shapes and customisable options. "Each element is highly visible but expertly engineered so as not to reveal the inner mechanics," said a statement on behalf of the studio, founded by business and romantic partners Aiden Bowman – an art historian – and engineer Josh Metersky.
