New entry-level chillers and heat pumps

Johnson Controls’ Amichi Series chillers and heat pumps, introduced to the South African market just six months ago, offer a high-value option with technologies and performance that are difficult to beat.

T he high price tag of even entry-level chillers has made this market seg- ment very competitive. With capaci- ties of 45 kWup to 260 kW the new YORK Amichi Series chillers and heat pumps are a great fit for the local mid-capacity seg- ment. More importantly, in terms of immedi- ate capital cost and long-term value, these combine the price benefit of scroll chillers with the increased control of a direct current (DC) inverter for better performance through a wider operating envelope. The YORK Amichi Series air-cooled scroll dc Inverter chillers (YMAA model) and the heat pumps (YMPAmodel) offer high levels of efficiency and performance and the smallest footprint across the widest capacity range on the market. The YMAA leads the scroll and screw market in part load efficiency and the YMAA/YMPA achieves the best sound performance in themarket with no efficiency compromise. The Amichi range meets or exceeds the requirements for the Ecodesign regulations for heat pumps, comfort chillers and process chillers through an optimised combination of YORK efficiency-enhancing technologies. Says Neil Cameron, Johnson Controls area general manager for building efficiency in Africa: “These chillers provide an excel-

lent fit as a solution for newbuilds, technology refreshes and retrofits in manufacturing and commercial facilities of up to 2 000m 2 . They are also especially use- ful as dedicated solu- tions for data centres that demand 24/7 op- eration and cooling.” Thesenewproducts

compete with increas- ingly popular HVAC variable refrigeration flow (VRF) solutions. “While the VRF so- lutions have a lower price tag, they aremore complex to install. The Amichi range brings highperformancebeyond typical chiller efficiency levels, as

to drive registrations and to weed out non- registered practitioners. While gas is an inherently safe medium, gas installations can be deadly under a non- registered practitioner. Practising as a regis- tered skilled or semi-skilled person affords the opportunity of a knowledge-based foun- dation that will hugely reduce the possibility of accidents or deadly incidents. Working with gas is a skill, not a right. Those who are not qualifieddonot have the right toworkon any form of installation, whether it is an air- conditioning installation or a gas pipe repair. SAQCC Gas and SARACCA would like to thank both the DEA and DOL for allow- ing our participation in the pilot study at the Capricorn TVET College. Legislation and technology is driving this industry forward into new territory, and in order to ensure that the best standards of practice are maintained, SAQCC Gas will be focusing on ground level activations in order to drive the message of compliance requirements and registration.

Recently, SARACCA and SAQCC Gas were hosted by the DEA at the Capricorn TVET College, with the intention of driving awareness for both Associations and offer- ing valuable insights into theHVAC industry. Like other industries such as electrical contracting, practitioners need to be adeptly skilled in order to ensure maximum safety practices. It is estimated that there areover 10000 unregistered practitioners working within the gas industry. The DEA along with the DOL have reached out to ensure that their message of compliance gives SAQCCGas themuscle
