Metso expands NWRapid crushing

Excellent corrosion resistant properties coupled with increased strength and enhanced safety benefits are the primary reasons why the demand for fibreglass floor grating has stayed steady, according to Lance Quinlan, national technical sales consultant, AndrewMentis. “This composite material product of- fers end-users significant benefits and is proving particularly popular in applica- tions where it is necessary to provide protection against harsh environmental factors or corrosive chemicals,” he says. Quinlan adds, fibreglass floor grating is easy to install and does not require weld- ingor endbanding. It thereforeoffers ease of installation and lowmaintenance costs. The structural integrity of the product is enhanced as the corners on the inside of the square opening are moulded to give a small radius. During construction the bars are tapered towards the bottom and this prevents build-up of debris and makes cleaning simple. The product does not rust or need painting or coating, and it is not affected by the sun. It is virtuallymaintenance free, which can be amajor long termcost saver. The product is also lightweight, he adds, making it easier to handle and larger sections can be installed. “This is both a labour and cost saving,” says Quinlan. www.mentis.co.za Steady demand for fibreglass floor grating

Metso Corporation is introducing new higher capacity models to its popular wheel-mounted Metso NW RapidTM se- ries. In addition to the bigger jaw crusher model, the NW Rapid units are now available with a variety of cone crushers, including the first model with the MXTM crusher. “The NW Rapid series is ideal for pro- ducing high-quality end products with multistage crushing and screeningunits. It can also temporarily increase production capacity to up to 500 t/h, which is equal to the capacity of a fixed plant,” says Julius Mäkelä, director: portable and modular solutions, Metso. “And because of the flexibility, cus-

tomers canbetter respond to short-notice orders and can accept contracts that couldn’t be carried out with traditional fixed solutions.” The NW4MXSTM is the latest intro- duction to the series and brings the MX4 Multi-Action cone crusher, launched in 2017, to the integrated crushing solution for the first time. Meanwhile, the NW120 Rapid jaw model will be joined by the screen- equipped NW330GPS and NW300HPS cone crushers. “The NW Rapid series models are electric driven and they have Metso’s IC- series crushing automation as a standard feature. Additionally, the NWRapid units can be connected to the Metso Metrics

remote monitoring service, which allows central monitoring of the entire crushing fleet’s produc- tion and energy consumption,” adds Mäkelä.

The Serial produc- tion of theNW4MXS will start in the sec- ond half of 2019. And for other models, factories are already work- ing to bring newma- chines to custom- ers globally. www.metso.com

Fire engineering, a key growth area Citing fire engineering as a key growth area, Michael van Niekerk, CEO, ASP Fire, says the company has employed two new fire engi- neers to enhance its service offering.

“Shops larger than 250 m 2 in area are re- quired to havemanual fire-detection systems in place, while shops in excess of 500 m 2 re- quire automatic firedetectionandemergency evacuation systems. “This also needs to be linked to the shop- ping centre’s building management system, so that patrons and other tenants can be forewarned timeously in the event of any emergency.” ASPFire conducts fire-risk assessments to determinewhether the actual fire loadwithin abuildingexceedstheinstalledfire-protection system design. Van Niekerk notes that ASP Fire is able to advise clients and to assist them with a suitable fire-protection strategy and system design to cater for any worst-case scenario. “We specialise in turnkey fire protection projects, whereby we design, supply, install, and maintain fire protection equipment in buildings,” he adds. www.aspfire.co.za

“Last year was an exceptionally busy year that resulted in significant growth for the company,” says van Niekerk. “We have since employed two new fire engineers to enhance our service offering, one of whom has an HVAC background that will further add to the expertise andexperienceof the company.” Looking at future growth, van Niekerk says there are significant opportunities in the retail industry, with ASP Fire having carried out about 13 shopping centre fire-risk evalu- ations to date. He says the average shopping centre is very much an environment in flux, however, if anchor tenants occupy a space in excess of 2 500 m 2 , then sprinkler systems have to be installed. “If you do not detect a fire in time, and can- not evacuate people fast enough, it can result in fatalities,” van Niekerk warns.
