BMG’s extensive range of Tsubaki high performance chain, which offers enhanced strength and reliability, a cleaner environment and extended operating life, includes the robust Workhorse elevator series. High performance chains for severe applications

“ W orkhorseelevator chains, manufac- tured for greater strength and du-

rability, are designed to resist the abrasive and demanding forces of aggregate elevators. This chain is particularly well suited for use in aggressive bulk material handling environments with harsh fine par- ticulates such as cement, lime, gyp- sum, coal, fertiliser, grain and sugar,” says Carlo Beukes, general manager, power transmission, BMG. “Care- fully selected high strength steels, advanced manufacturing processes and refined heat treatments, ensure maximum fatigue strength and pro- tection against failure, even when these chains are used in the most severe applications.”

BMG’s extensive range of Tsubaki high performance chain is well suited for use in aggressive bulk material handling environments such as cement, lime and gypsum plants.

TheWorkhorse 5800 and 5900 series, with average tensile strength ratings (ATS) of between 65 909 kg and 129 545 kg, can be upgraded with various plated pins, bushings and joint seals – individually or in combination – to ensure dependability and enhanced wear resistance in specific applications. An important feature of this series is that extended bushing barrier seals prevent abrasivematerials fromentering andattacking chain joints. The chain bushings are extended beyond the inside sidebars tominimise the clearance between the outside bars and the bushings. This in turn creates a solid barrier that inhibits abrasive material from entering the pin/bushing joint. Tsubaki standard backstops – designed for safety in normal low speed conveyor applications – offer a simple and cost-effective means to protect capital equipment, including inclined conveyors and bucket elevators. Theseuniquelydesignedbackstopcamclutches prevent reverse rota- tion of, for instance, the head pulley of an incline conveyor, thus acting as critical safety equipment, as well as avoiding damage to machinery and expensive equipment. Maintenance benefits for the BS135 (135mmshaft size) and smaller units include the fact that they are greased for life, with nomaintenance required. Bigger units only require lubricationonce every 4000 to8000 hours, depending on environment. Old grease can be flushed out and changed while the unit is in operation and there is no need to remove the backstop from the shaft. BMG’s technical team advises on the selection of the correct cam clutch for each application and the appropriate installation and usage for optimum performance and improved safety standards. Tsubaki’s complete range of cam clutches is available from BMG in different capacities and styles. Workhorse chains are manufactured by Tsubaki USA and are gener- ally available from BMG in South Africa within six weeks of receipt of order. This makes planning a lot easier for plant maintenance. q
