BMG’s fluid technology services include solutions for hydraulics and pneumatics, lubrication, fuel and industrial filtration systems, hydraulic hose and fittings, as well as instrumentation, pumps and industrial valves. Total process, filtration and lubrication management solutions

“ F luid power – which encompasses the use of fluids under pressure to generate, control and transmit power – comprises hydraulics, us- ing a liquid such as mineral oil; and pneumat- ics, using a compressed gas, for example, air,” explains David Dyce, business unit manager, BMGfluid technology. “With broad technical capabilities, BMGis abletooffer total process, filtration and lubrication management solu- tions throughoutAfrica, inapplicationswhere conventional products have failed after short periods of service. “BMG’s fluid technology team has a thor- ough understanding of the filtration process and offers solutions that ensure fluids – in- cluding oil, fuel and lubricant oil – are within the required cleanliness standards. Efficient filtration disciplines result in optimum per- formance, improved reliability and extended service life of machinery, equipment and vehicles. Without efficient control and con-

tamination prevention, premature equipment failure is likely, resulting indowntime and costly replacement of parts,” he warns. “A key area of growth for BMG is in replacement components for hydraulic oil filtration systems. The company has recognised a growing demand from indus- tries, including earthmoving, mining, trans- port, chemicals andpetrochemicals, aswell as shipping, for the supply of quality parts that ensure ‘cleaner’, non-contaminateddiesel and lubricant oils,” Dyce says. BMG’s extensive range nowencompasses EcoPart filter elements for stationary and mobile hydraulic systems from the Filtration Group (FG). These components, with defined filter performance and purity class, comply with stringent DIN and ISO standards and have all other necessary standard industry approvals. FG’s EcoPart series, which includes a

These components are suitable for diverse hydraulic applications, as well as gear oil treatment. FGFilter elements aredesigned to reduce the solidparticle contamination to the prescribed contamination class, to prevent the ingress of dirt from the environment and maintain the properties of the hydraulic fluid for an extended time period. Award for dry compressing vacuum technology The use of vacuum in analytical technology and research and devel- opment is an essential factor that enables modern applications, for example, in thefieldofmeasuring instruments. The selectionof suit- ableequipment and the associatedvacuumcomponents is therefore crucial for success in laboratories. With innovative products such as the newECODRY plus dry compressing vacuumpump, Leybold has received an award recognising this.

The ECODRY plus is a newly developed family of dry-compres- sionmulti-stage Roots vacuumpumps, which sets new standards in noise reduction. The pumps have been specially designed for use in quiet and clean environments, such as analysis and research labo- ratories. ECODRY plus pumps provide clean vacuum at maximum pumping speeds of 40 and 55m³/h, whilst creating the lowest noise level technically possible. They deliver stable vacuumperformance for many years without maintenance. The pumps have two contactless rotating rotors turning in op- posite directions. Through their rotation the gas is moved from the inlet to the exhaust. The effect of multiple pumping stages is to compress the gas frommediumvacuum range to ambient pressure. The products are distinguished by the following features: • Quiet: With the integrated acoustic insulation and silencer the noise level of these pumps is lower than 52 dB(A), quieter than a normal conversation. • Clean: With an oil-free suction chamber and wear-free opera- tion, neither oil vapours nor particles contaminate the vacuum chamber or the environment. • Maintenance-free: Changing oil or seals is not required – the

pumps deliver stable vacuum performance for many years without maintenance. • Easy to use: The pumps are compact, powered by regular single- phase sockets, air-cooled and easy to reposition by integrated wheels. The trademagazine ‘Laborpraxis’ used its 40 th anniversary as an op- portunity to recognise some of the most spectacular technologies in this field in a milestone series under the heading ‘Laboratory and analysis technology – yesterday, today and tomorrow’. On this oc- casion, the vacuumspecialist Leybold received themilestone award for vacuum technology in one of the 15 categories. q From left to right: B Meidel; Dr Marlis Sydow (senior market segment manager high vacuum), P Endrös (head of sales for southern Germany), and M Platthaus, on receiving the milestone award for vacuum technology at the jubilee gala of Vogel Business Media’s ‘Laborpraxis’ magazine in Germany.
