FLSmidth has launched redesigned mill lining components engineered to suit the specific functions and operating environments of the mining industry. The new mill liners will increase the throughput of SAG mills and substantially increase the wear life of liners. Bottom line benefits from composite mill liners

A lighter liner means fewer bolts to hold it in place, a factor that further reduces installa- tion time. The shorter downtime means less time for contractors inside the mills, leading to faster and safer liner changeout. Another important benefit of the com- posite material used in many of FLSmidth’s redesigned liners is it is not necessary to torch the liners, as is sometimes required when re- moving old steel liners. The torching process in themill isbest avoided, as it cancausecostly damage to the mill shell. Finally, there has also been the develop- ment of composite material shell liners that are bolted fromthe outside of themill, speed- ing up installation and reducing risk. “Respondingtothecontinuousassessment of customer needs, FLSmidth has launched a mill liner solution based on extensive data on mill operations, shutdowns, wear profiles and other factors. These have been used to develop a high-end technical and financial solution. Following installation, an ongoing measurement of actual wear, tonnage pro- cessed and estimated wear life is conducted so further recommendations can be made to improve performance,”Meegan concludes. q

D elivering on a promise to provide increased productivity to the mining industry, the compos- ite materials incorporated in FLSmidth new mill liners ensure users can take advantage of the wear characteristics of multiple materials, while extending the liners’ wear life. With lighterweightmill liners, installation is faster and safer as each liner is easier toma- nipulate.Therearealsofewerparts, therefore fewer movements are required to perform a reline, resulting in a significant decrease in scheduled downtime. The composite nature of the liner reduc- es its weight by almost 50%, al- lowing the plant to increase its ball charge level without increas- ing the total weight of the mill. This higher ball charge further contributes to the higher throughput. “Asmines increasingly recognise the positive financial impact derived from just

a few more percentage points in throughput improvement, many are looking beyond con- ventional steel cast liners formills. FLSmidth’s innovations, based on combinations of steel, rubberandceramiccomponents,allowthelin- ers to be thinner, resulting in a larger volume inside the mill, making higher charge levels possible,” comments Jack Meegan, product line manager: comminution at FLSmidth. Thelighterweightoftheselinershasanim- portant impact on size, designand installation time. Each liner can now be larger – subject to the size of the mill opening – and the mill can be linedwith fewer of them, reducing the downtime required to conduct replacement.

FLSmidth composite mill liners are designed to increase the throughput of SAG mills and increase

the wear life of the liners.

These are designed to maintain a strong air-core at the different sizes. The spigot sizes range from normal to extra high capacity to accommodate low yield ores. They can also be manufactured in different material to prolong the hy- drocyclone life and efficiency. q

The Cavex ® CVXT tile-lined hydrocyclone features unique laminar spiral inlet geometrydesigned todeliver sharper separation, maximum capacity and longer wear life than conventional involute and tangential feed inlet designs. This innovative design provides a natural flow path into the cyclone body, allowing the feed stream to blend smoothly with the rotating slurry inside the chamber. The result is greatly reduced turbulence through the whole cyclone, dramatically im- proving the separation efficiency of the hydrocyclone. The Cavex CVXT hydrocyclone can be fitted with an extendedbarrelwhichmaximises efficiencyby increasing the residence time in the hydrocyclone. This is especially for ore with a high content of near density materials. It is also available with different overflow configuration options to suit operational needs.
