Reliable quarter turn valves for gas applications
The GEMÜ R480 Victoria butterfly valve is certified and listed under registration number DG-313CQ0540, and the GEMÜ B20 ball valve under registration number 22-00143-AB01-130. www.gemu-group.com
GEMÜ butterfly valves in the GEMÜ R480 Victoria series and the GEMÜ B20 ball valve have been awarded gas approval by the DVGW – German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water. The GEMÜ R480 Victoria and GEMÜ B20 are suitable for use with different gas es, such as natural gas and biogas – the main component of which is methane – propane and liquid gases containing butane. They are approved for gas production, treatment and injection. This includes use for combustible gases in gas families two and three in gas burners and gas appliances. It also includes the use of hydrogen. The DVGW regulatory
code is used to confirm the ability of these valves to work reliably and precisely in dif ferent gas environments. The butterfly valves are available in nominal sizes DN 25 to DN 600 and can be ordered with immediate effect with the special function ‘G’ marking for gas. The GEMÜ B20 ball valve in nominal sizes DN 8 to DN 65, which also has the ‘G’ special function, is suitable for use with combus tible gases. A yellow hand lever is available as an option for better visual identification. A type-specific examination was carried out for both quarter turn valves in accordance with DIN EN 13774.

High performance in a small, new package
permanent magnet motor control. With PM motor compatibility, this system provides ef ficient permanent magnet motor control in open loop under VVC+ throughout the power range and is available in two versions, with or without the RFI filter. Integrated energy efficiency features, including an automatic energy optimiser and sleep mode, can reduce energy consumption by up to 30%. In addition, the iC2-Micro Drive has new safety features, including enhanced overcurrent protection and short circuit detection, which protect the motor and drive from damage in the event of a fault. The iC2-Micro Drive comes standard with an intuitive, user-friendly interface with dis play and keypad. The local control panel also has a standard potentiometer for local speed adjustment. This drive is incorporated with spring type I/O terminals for simple external control wiring. The VSD can quickly and easily be installed and configured, saving users time and reducing the risk of errors. An optional remote-control panel provides extra functionalities, including a monochrome display, multi-language support, a parameter copy and download, easy connection with RJ45 port and a remote mounting kit. The drive can also be programmed using the Danfoss ‘MyDrive Insight’ commissioning and monitoring tool. This software enables users to perform off site commissioning and backing up of the drives program. It also allows hot commissioning while monitoring live scope readings. The software includes valuable predicative maintenance features such as motor winding and load envelope monitoring. BMG’s range of Danfoss drives has been designed to save energy, optimise process control and improve productivity in many sectors, including processing, mining and minerals, industrial HVAC, marine and water, as well as chemical, oil and gas industries. www.bmgworld.net
BMG recently launched the new Danfoss iC2-Micro Drive, that has been designed with advanced features for easy replacement of the VLT ® Micro Drive FC 51.
Available in South Africa through BMG, the new versatile iC2-Micro Drive from Danfoss delivers superior motor control and mechani cal brake performance, is more intelligent and powerful than its predecessor – the VLT ® Micro Drive FC 51 – and it is easier to use, install and commission. “The advanced iC2-Micro Drive, with reduced complexity and greater functional ity, offers improved performance and energy efficiency over the VLT ® Micro Drive FC 51, while ensuring a seamless retrofit for exist ing applications and for complex tasks,” says David Dyce, Business Unit Manager for Electronics at BMG. This compact unit, with a small footprint and side-by-side mounting, can be installed in tight spaces and is able to withstand a wider operating temperature range for safe use in harsh environments. In fact, these drives – available in a power range for singe-phase units of 200–240 Vac and 0.37 to 2.2 kW; and for three-phase units in 380 to 480 Vac from 0.37 to 22 kW – can operate reliably at full
load for ambient temperatures of up to 50°C. In addition, the drives come standard with coated circuit boards and controlled airflow movement to reduce the possibility of cor rosive contaminants coming into contact with the drive’s circuitry. The drive’s fan system has built in on/off control to reduce noise and save energy. The fan is also removable for simplified drive maintenance. “A key feature of the iC2-Micro is the integrated PID controller that enables users to programme closed loop functions directly into the drive, improving its speed and process control capability. Advanced control algo rithms and digital signal processing ensure more precise control over motor speed and torque, resulting in improved efficiency of the system and reduced energy consumption. “We highly recommend iC2-Micro Drives to our customers needing to upgrade existing drives, or who are in the process of select ing drives for a new project,” advises Dyce. Other new features include torque open loop control, locked motor detection and
