3D/AM printer for less than $49 999 Additive Manufacturing (AM) is said to be a cornerstone of the 4th industrial revolution. “It is a technology that is and will carry on changing thewaywe lookatthedesignofcom- ponents – both for mass production and for intricate specialised parts. With this in mind, we at Weartech aim to provide professional supplies to you, the customer,” saysWeartech technical director, AdamWintle.

Weartech is in discussion with Aurora Labs, an Australian based company that spe- cialises in the prototyping and production of cost-efficient 3D/AM printers, to distribute Aurora products in South Africa. These printers offer an extensive range of printing capabilities when it comes to the materials that can be printed, as well as two printing modes: Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS); and Direct Metal Laser Melting (DMLM). Introducing the cost-efficient S-Titanium Pro at only $49 999, Wintle says that this metal 3D/AM printer offers the largest range of materials that can currently be 3D printed, namely: stainless steel, Inconel 625, Inconel 718, NiBSi, Titanium, Bronze andMaraging steel. “Near net-shape printingmeaning less post-processing is required on the finished parts manufactured in these expensive materials. And as well as offering the S-Titanium Pro, we will be offering metal powders for printing, spares and maintenance for the machines and operator training, making Weartech a one stop 3D printing-shop,” Wintle concludes. www.weartech.co.za Apex’s smart reset doors Helping warehouses, plants and shipment areas to raise turnaround times and safety levels is the innovative Smart Reset roll-up door from industry leader Apex Strip Curtains & Doors. This heavy-duty door is equippedwith an integral electronic safety device that automatically reverses itsmotion if an obstacle is encoun- tered when the door is closing. Also, the bottom passive edge of the Apex Smart Reset Door is made of flexible and shockproof material, protectingthedooritselffromdamage–whiletwophotocellsmounted inside the casing of thedoor augments the electronic systemto ensure that the curtain rolls uniformly. Downtime is kept to a minimum with features such as the door’s automatic ‘fix’ characteristic. If thedoor is inadvertentlyhit byavehicle or object passing through, the hingeswill come off the guides since the side hinges on the door slide along special guides, together with the flexible curtain ends. This avoids damage to the flexible curtain itself. Then the door is then able to recover automatically with a simple opening and closing operation. TheApexSmartResetDoor is alsowell equipped todealwithpower failures andmalfunctions. Fittedwith a release lever, it can be opened from either side. It can be activated by any type of remote control equipment, including photocells, pressure-sensitive mats, movement detectors or induction loops – as it is controlled by an electronic unit that complies with all IEC regulations. Its unobtrusive designmakes it ideal for openings of up to twome- tres high and fourmetreswide, and it canbe equippedwith anoptional inverter systemtomake it easy toadjust itsopeningandclosing speeds. www.apexstrip.co.za
