New underground loader from Caterpillar while using significantly less fuel per hour. The R1700 gains cycle time advan- tages through fast bucket loading due to high breakout forces and a new traction control system that limits tyre slip when the bucket enters the pile. The result is fast loading, good bucket fill factors and reduced tyre wear. Excellent machine bal- ance and a new electrohydraulic braking system aid load-and-carry cycles.

“Being able to effectively screen over- burden reduces the requirement to blast, eliminating the associated environmen- tal impact whilst also saving time and money,” he says. “We can now utilise overburden material and turn it into a valuable product. “The Warrior 2100 uses the manu- facturer’s’ triple shaft technology which was first developed for the successful Warrior 2400 screen which is widely used in South Africa and across the world. This triple shaft technology, unique to Powerscreen heavy duty mobile screens, is designed so the 4,8 m x 1,5 m screen box is highly effective and efficient while maintaining exceptional throughput productivity. “The extreme screening acceleration offers the Warrior 2100 screen improved capabilities over its class rivals, espe- cially in sticky scalping applications. With amplitudes and accelerations in excess of 16 mm and 6 g respectively, the Warrior 2100 triple shaft screen is more prolific at removing and breaking up clay materials than any of its class rivals,” says Dickson. Heath Dickson, ELB Equipment, tel (+27 11) 306-0700, website: www.elbequipment.co.za Operators will appreciate the respon- siveness of the machine. During the load or dump cycle, the harder the operator pushes the controls, the faster the machine responds. The steering system is pilot con- trolled to provide more precise feel for the operator during manoeuvres in tight places. Ride control is now fully integrated into the hydraulic system and engages automatically as the machine goes above 5 km/h. The R1700 has auto retarding that is hydraulically actuated. The system comes on automatically when the operator’s foot is lifted from the throttle. Cycle times improve as operators gain confidence and become more comfortable on downhill grades at faster speeds. For the entire underground loader line, Caterpillar now offers Bolt On Half Arrow ground engaging tools (GET) for bucket edges. The system is designed for high abrasion applications where weld-on GET experience high wear rates. ties. Its efficient handling of materials and economical powerplant deliver further saving for miners or contractors on site. According to ELB Equipment’s Heath Dickson, themachine is specially designed for work alongside mining operations in a variety of terrains and has flexible screening options and generous stockpile heights to accommodate a wide range of loading types. It also offers quick setup times and an improvement with quick screen media changes when required. Optional Autodig helps new opera- tors be productive the first day and reduces fatigue for experienced operators. MineStar™ Command for underground offers a selection of control technologies – line-of-sight remote control, teleremote control from a distant operator station, semi-autonomous operation, and fully autonomous operation. Fuel efficiency gets a boost in the new R1700 from on-demand adjustment of the cooling fan and the hydraulic system, as well as the efficiency of the Cat C13 engine. The 6-cylinder engine is turbocharged and air-to-air aftercooled, and it produces 269 kW in standard configuration and 257 kW in EU Stage V compliant form.

The Cat® R1700 Underground Mining Loader.

Caterpillar recently launched the Cat® R1700 Underground Mining Loader, a completely new design that has reportedly proven its high productivity in extended field trials. The R1700 carries a size-class-leading payload of 15 tonnes, 20 % more than its predecessor, yet it maintains the dimen- sions of the R1700G. A recent head-to-head study andmultiple field trials show that the machine leverages its payload advantage to deliver much faster truck loading and more productive load-and-carry operations

Efficient three-shaft screen saves money Processing equipment supplier ELB Equipment has released an ultra-efficient three-shaft screen which is capable of dealing with overburden for use in reha- bilitation or to stockpile materials as a saleable by-product of mining.

The new Powerscreen Warrior 2100 is able to reduce processing cycles by deal- ing with unprocessed overburden and significantly shorten production times in the separation of materials either for rehabilitation or as saleable commodi-
