Spy Group Holdings – which specialises in crushing and screening in the coal mining sector – has invested in a new McCloskey J45 jaw crusher from HPE Africa. “Our ongoing investment in advanced machinery forms part of our team’s com- mitment to customers to continually find Contractor invests in McCloskey J45 jaw crusher more efficient ways to process coal,” says Martin Brown, Spy Group Holdings. “This new heavy-duty McCloskey J45 jaw crusher enhances our existing McCloskey C50 and J40 crushers, which have exceeded perfor- mance expectations. “One of the outstanding features in the Manitou Southern Africa, a subsidiary of Manitou Group, a world leader in rough- terrain handling, launched some of its latest innovations at Electra Mining Africa 2018. The highlight of the Manitou stand was the launch of the world’s first electric telescopic handler, the Manitou MHT-790E, specifically designed for mining customers. The MHT-790E electric telescopic han- dler was born out of the need to eliminate fatigue in the mines associated with diesel Electric telescopic handler is first of its kind particulate emissions, particularly in tight and closed off areas. Transportation of fuel to refuel diesel machines is often another issue faced by mines in terms of time, cost and accessibility. Through a partner- ship with different suppliers dedicated to alternative energies, a Manitou MHT-X 790 diesel telescopic handler was converted into a fully electrical telescopic handler. With a lifting capacity of up to 9 tons and a lifting height of up to 6,84 m, the MHT-790E telehandler is the first of its kind in the world. The machine is powered by a lithium iron phosphate battery, known to be one of the safest battery chemistry compositions for its thermal and chemical stability. Other advantages of these types of batteries are their low cost, non-toxic- ity, the natural abundance of iron, safety characteristics and electrochemical per- formance. All of these advantages result in a machine which emits zero fumes, pro- duces less heat and has a long expected The Manitou MHT-790E is specifically designed for mining customers.

battery life of 3 000 cycles, protecting the health and safety of those working in confined areas such as tunnels and mines. A continuous battery shift time of eight hours combined with a high speed charging time of 90 minutes or onboard charging time of 18 hours ensures an uninterrupted work shift. An active air-cooling system, which is completely sealed, cools the air down to keep the battery temperature at optimum levels while the electric motor is cooled via a water cooling method. Additional safety features built into the MHT-790E telehandler includes various detection systems, ensuring that the vehi- cle slows down should a person, vehicle or obstacle be detected, thus reducing the possibility of accidents. The battery pack included in the MHT-790E is also 3G impact rated, protecting it in the unlikely event of an accident. McCloskey crushers have a user-friendly dust-and water-proof control panel that allows effi- cient monitoring of pressures, fluid levels and fuel consumption. This minimal, yet effective, electronics system also provides push-button control of the jaw, track and feeder functions.” The J45 jaw crusher is in operation at the Wonderfontein coal crushing and screen- ing project of 100 000 tons per month and is optimised for use at the primary stage of crushing in the Wonderfontein project. SANY excavators delivered to manganese operation Goscor Earth Moving (GEM) Kathu, part of the Goscor Group, has continued its growth in the important Northern Cape mining region with the recent delivery of three SANY SY500H excavators to the AMG Group (Africa Mining Group) in September.

cialty is to implement efficient and effective mining and beneficiation techniques to ensure we receive maximum value from the product, converting unsaleable low-grade ore to a saleable product,” he says. GEM Kathu Acting Branch Manager Rudi Burger, who facilitated this important deal, stresses that the AMG Group is the kind of blue-chip mining client likely to give the SANY brand good legs in the Northern Cape region. With a rated power output of 298 kW, a dig depth of 8 255 mm and a bucket break- out force of 275 kN, the SANY SY500H is said to be ideal for heavy-duty mining opera- tions.“The powerful engine and large bucket combination translates into fast operation

This major new manganese-mining cli- ent currently has a fleet of ten excavators, ten load-haul dump trucks, and six front-end loaders. The three SANY SY500H excavators were procured to assist in extending the AMG Group’s existing mining area, thereby boost- ing monthly production significantly, Chief Operating Officer Scott Yuan explains. Yuan is a mechanical and project engineer with a decade’s experience in the mining industry. “We are a mining and beneficiation com- pany focused on investing, prospecting, excavating and trading in Africa. Our spe-

and high efficiency,” Burger stresses. Goscor, website: www.goscorearthmoving.co.za
