T3 copper project nears a development decision
Australia’s MOD Resources (MOD), listed on the ASX and (since November 2018) on the main board of the London Stock Exchange (LSE), is moving at speed to develop its T3 open-pit copper/silver project in the Kalahari Copper- belt of Botswana. A Feasibility Study (FS) on T3 is due for completion by the end of March this year and a decision on whether to take the project into development is expected by mid-year. This is the message fromMOD’s Managing Direc- tor, Julian Hanna (right), who spoke to Modern Mining’ s Arthur Tassell at the recent Mining Indaba in Cape Town.
U nder a best case scenario, T3 could enter construction in late 2019 and be producing in late 2020 or early 2021, in the process helping to re-establish Botswana – which currently has no active cop- per mines – as a copper producer. The only other advanced copper project in the Kalahari
Copperbelt is the Zone 5 project of Khoemacau Copper Mining, controlled by Cupric Canyon Capital, based in the US. Khoemacau is plan- ning an underground operation with first pro- duction reportedly anticipated in 2021. Since the T3 deposit – now 100 %-owned by MOD – was first discovered under cal- crete cover in March 2016 when a drill hole
A drill site at T23, which is the first of the targets within the T20 project to be drilled.
