525 V, and two containerised substations. For its part, EnI Electrical – which has also been engaged underground at Cullinan on the C-Cut project – completed an array of work for the processing facility, including construction of the 88 kV lines from the self-build switch- ing station to the Cullinan bulk substation, a 6,6 kV overhead line from the bulk substation to the new 7 Dam pump-station, as well as the installation of containerised MCCs, cabling and cable racking at the pump-station itself. The company also installed transformers and switchgear, MV and LV electrical reticulation, cable racking and cabling, lighting and a com- munication system for the mill expansion. Summing up Zest WEG Group’s involve- ment at Cullinan, Alastair Gerrard, Integrated Solutions Executive with Zest WEG Group, described the project as a very prestigious one for the Group and said that the Zest WEG Group’s diverse product and solutions pack- age had allowed it to provide a comprehensive solution to Petra. He added that close collabo- ration and continuous interaction between all the parties had been the key to the success of the project. „

the Integrated Solutions division of Zest WEG Group and several other companies within the Group, namely WEG Transformers Africa, Shaw Controls and specialist electrical, instrumenta- tion and control systems construction company EnI Electrical. The Group’s scope of work included the 88/6,6 kV Cullinan bulk substation, as well as an 88 kV switching station, provided on a ‘self- build’ basis, meaning that it is owned by Eskom but was built and paid for by Cullinan (although Petra will benefit over time due to reduced unit costs). Both installations required very close collaboration with Eskom and on both Zest WEG Group was responsible for procurement, construction, erection and commissioning. WEG Transformers Africa supplied 26 trans- formers in all, with the smallest being a 100 kVA unit and the biggest being three 20 MVA units. Also contributing a wide range of equipment to the project was Shaw Controls, which supplied six 525 V, 50 kA Motor Control Centres (MCCs), two medium voltage 6,4 MW, 3,3 kV mill drive packages, each comprising a variable speed drive (VSD), motor and transformer, two 1 MW low voltage VSDs, 170 field isolator stations of
