DustScrape suppresses conveyor dust “AirScrape®, DustScrape® and Speed- Scrape® systems, which are easy to assemble and operate, form part of BLTWORLD’s custom-designed solutions service, to meet exact bulk material con- veyor project requirements.

performance and offer a wider operating envelope, while still meeting the Impala standard.” The cooling solution, including the first two refrigeration machines, the initial two condenser cooling towers, the complete spray chamber shells, and spray piping for the first phase of bulk air cooling, was con- structed in 2008. For the second phase, two newmachines have been installed and two new cooling towers have been constructed. The new chillers were due to be operational by the end of September 2018, adding 14 MWR of cooling. Russell Hattingh, Johnson Controls, tel (+27 11) 921-7141 The DustScrape system comprises a fil- ter cloth, support arches and skirts, arms to hold the system above the dust emission prevention system e belt and a rubber cur- tain to eliminate further dust development. Selection of the correct AirScrape size depends on the loading width of the con- veyor belt and the required load-free zone of the belt edges. The AirScrape conveyor belt skirting system is installed above the load-free zone and generates the air-intake from outside into the system. The gener- ated airflow from above the conveyed material then gets filtrated through the fil- ter cloth, retaining any dust particles, which are re-deposited back into thematerial flow. BLTWORLD, website: www.bltworld.com created by conveyed materials, while remaining permeable to circulating air. This long-lasting filter cloth, with self- cleaning and dust-releasing properties, is available with different qualities, including anti-static features. The dust retaining filter cloth is manu- factured in 2 m long sections, which can be extended to any required length.

refrigeration plant and air cooling system. “The cooling plant is designed to facili- tate six chillers in total as production builds up and demand for cooling increases,” says Richard Gundersen of BBE. “The first two chillers, also York machines, were installed almost 10 years ago and we are now entering the second phase of the cooling expansion.” Russell Hattingh of Johnson Controls adds: “The two 7 MWR York YK chillers are newer models of the two York machines initially installed. They deliver improved “Correct installation of suitable equip- ment ensures cost efficiency, optimum performance and safety, reduced risk of breakdown and extended service life of the conveyor system,” he continues. “BLTWORLD’s DustScrape dust filter system, which is used in conjunction with the contact-free AirScrape conveyor belt skirting system, is a highly-effective, energy-free dust emission prevention sys- tem. This compact and lightweight system, complies with most new dust prevention guides and prevents health and safety issues on site. This system also minimises product loss, by effectively preventing material from being blown into the sur- rounding environment.” DustScrape consists of a durable fil- tering cloth that is installed above the conveyor belt to retain dust particles

The DustScrape dust filter system has been developed for the prevention of dust formation and material spill at critical sec- tions along the conveyor route.

BLTWORLD offers dependable solutions for specific problems at the transfer points of conveyor systems in bulk materials han- dling on the mines. “ScrapeTec Trading’s German-engi- neered products have been specially developed for the prevention of dust for- mation and material spill and for more efficient belt-cleaning at critical sections along the conveyor route and transfer points,” says Ken Mouritzen, Managing Director, BLTWORLD, distributors for ScrapeTec Trading in Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.

Second round of York chillers supplied to 16 Shaft Johnson Controls has supplied two York YK centrifugal chillers to Impala Platinum (Implats) for the second phase expansion of cooling capacity for its No 16 Shaft as it heads toward a depth of 1 650 m.

The surface air cooling plant for the No 16 Shaft was designed and estab- lished in 2008 by mine ventilation and refrigeration specialists Bluhm Burton Engineering Consulting (BBE), who were appointed by Implats to provide a turnkey solution that included the design, con- struction and commissioning of the overall
