Geobank Mobile expands integration capabilities MICROMINE reports that Geobank Mobile, its data acquisition and management solution, now has the ability to integrate directly to the Terraplus KT-10 Magnetic Susceptibility device, enabling instant collection and man- agement of magnetic susceptibility readings. The Terraplus KT-10 is reportedly the mar- ket-leading magnetic susceptibility device for the geological exploration industry and is used by global exploration companies to assist in providing key data relating to mag- netic susceptibility of different rocks and minerals. The Geobank Mobile development team saw the integration as a key strategic direc- tion for the product. The KT-10 integrated Geobank Mobile will simplify and optimise the collection of exploration data, particu- larly in remote areas with poor connectivity. Rather than storing and analysing magnetic susceptibility data in the cloud or a propri- etary database, users now have the ability to do this on-site and in real time. Understanding the magnetic susceptibility of rocks and minerals is important for identi- fying ore zones, rock contacts and specific minerals in a rock. This can be seen in gold ore deposits where ferromagnetic sulphide minerals, such as pyrite and pyrrhotite, can be indicators of gold mineralisation. Being able to plot a trace of magnetic sus- ceptibility values next to other observations, measurements and values greatly assists in defining and understanding the ore deposit. Connecting Geobank Mobile to KT-10 can be achieved via Bluetooth or by tethering the KT-10 to a tablet with a USB cable. Taking readings with the KT-10 involves the same workflow already used in Geobank, with the added benefit of stored readings

Proof Engineering’s range of double- compression cable glands including the Orion, Crater and Taurus Exd AMPgland, are designed to ensure safe and efficient securing and sealing of cables in the min- ing and oil and gas industries. “The AMPgland, which is proudly our very own branded cable gland, offers an all-inclusive, electrical installation solu- tion,” says Donovan Marks, MD of Proof Engineering, which is a Hudaco company. A 750-t crane fromConcord Cranes, a crane hire and specialised transport service com- pany in the Industrial Services Holdings (InServe) stable, was recently used to install sections of two new ship loaders at Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal for the largest coal exporter in the world. Ship loaders are large machines used to load bulk solid materials such as coal, iron ore, bauxite, alumina, fertilisers, phos- phates and sulphur into ships. Apart from the 750-t crane itself, Concord Cranes’ successful involvement in this project was due to the expertise and experience of its operators, Richards Bay Branch Manager Bella Mollentze comments. “Our operators and support teams are the heart of our business. You need special people with passion who love what they do.” He adds that Concord Cranes’ operators and support personnel are trained continually and are sufficiently skilled to operate its advanced equipment and technology. “It is an essential that they are confident with the cranes’ functions and capabilities, especially when dealing with major lifts

Cable glands ensure efficient sealing

AMPgland’s cable securing and sealing capability is due to its unique state-of-the- art, high quality design which features two O-rings on the shielding cone. The double-compression O-ring ensures dou- ble sealing by preventing the intrusion of contaminants such as water and dust. “Water intrusion will be trapped between the two O-rings, preventing contact with armour for unparalleled protection,” explains Marks. Alongside achieving high strain relief and explosion proof protection, the special shape of the gland’s lower and upper seal also earn it an IP 66/68 rating. Installation of the AMPgland is easy and simple, keeping downtime to a mini- mum. There is no need to change, remove or adjust any internal components as long as the diameter of the used cable is within the declared clamping range. The swivel- ling‘shielding cone’for clamping armour is secured to the ‘upper and lower body’ by the O-rings Proof Engineering, website: www.proofeng.co.za
