Lion Park Quarries in Lanseria has broken new ground with the commissioning of a Terex WJ1175 electric wheeled jaw crush- ing plant, reportedly the first of its kind in Africa. As a fully electric drive operated crush- ing plant, the new Terex is a significant departure from its diesel-driven predeces- sor. It has much lower running costs and requires significantly less support and maintenance on site. Supplied locally by ELB Equipment, the TerexWJ1175 is said to be a game-changer for mines and quarries with access to the Jaw crusher breathes new energy into quarry national electricity grid or another similarly reliable source. With fewer moving parts and no hydraulics, it is a simpler machine and, as a result, is less expensive to buy and maintain. Operationally, the crusher provides powerful and precise crush- ing operations, is considerably quieter than competing products and features enhanced operator safety. Johann Meintjes, who co-owns the quarry alongside his father, Johann snr, says the new machine is a revelation in terms of both outputs and efficiency. “Diesel bills for the predecessor Pegson XF

enhance our ability to offer superior solu- tions that have a positive impact on our customer’s bottom line,” adds Ntsele. The internal geometry of the MHC™ series has been developed to promote smooth flow of the material from the inlet into the hydrocyclone, minimising liner wear and increasing throughput. The unique single component conical section eliminates the need for multiple conical section housing and liner parts, thereby increasing wear life and keeping downtime to a minimum. Metso’s improved manifold design ensures accurate feed distribution includ- ing overflow and underflow collection from multiple hydrocyclones operating in parallel. The new product improves Metso’s exist- ing equipment offering, which now covers the supply of entire grinding circuit sys- tems. The MHC™ Series is available in seven different sizes with diameters ranging from 100 mm to 800 mm. Each size has a range of vortex finder and apex inserts to fine tune the classification performance. Metso, website: www.metso.com jaw crusher were mounting up and added a considerable margin to the cost of our sand and stone products,” he says. “The new machine’s electricity bills are about 40 % less by comparison and, with its bigger, more efficient, crushing cham- ber, it adds considerably to our sand and stone production.” He says the previous mechanically oper- ated plant required servicing every 200 hours at a cost of over R20 000 each time with the servicing resulting in it being out of operation for approximately five hours. By contrast, the new Terex requires only a daily brush-off and check-up. “Being mobile, it can also be hitched to a truck or loader and be taken to where the crushing is required depending on where mining is taking place. Once in place, the wheels also serve to anchor and dampen the vibration of the plant giving it a stable and smooth platform to operate from,” says Meintjes. He adds that the quarry operation has been in existence for more than 30 years and has developed a special relationship with ELB Equipment which has lasted right from the very beginning. Metso introduces ‘next generation’ hydrocyclone Metso has introduced the newMHC™ Series hydrocyclone which provides a wide range of grinding circuit classification duties, ensuring maximum uptime and recovery to customers. “We identified a gap in our grinding systemoffering and, with the addi- tion of our cyclone range, we are now in a

good position to offer a complete grinding solution with the requisite process guaran- tee from one source,” says Charles Ntsele, General Manager for Capital Equipment Sales, Africa and Middle East. Designed to optimise mining applica- tions, the new MHC™ Series represents

the next generation of hydrocyclones. Tested rigorously in the field with successful results, the product is said to offer significant advan- tages over previously available technologies. The new range focuses on enhanced process performance, supe- rior wear component design, and improved ease of maintenance. “We believe that this latest addition to Metso’s product portfolio will further
