specialise in supplying processing plants, par- ticularly modular plants. “Relationships like this are incredibly valuable,” he says. “We’re not simply supplying off-the-shelf products to these companies. Instead we become part of the team, contributing our expertise and working with the other teammembers to devise the opti- mum solutions for customers.” While vibrating screens of almost every type form the heart of MVT’s offering, the company has a broad range of vibrating equipment which also includes grizzly feeders, pan and scalp- ing feeders, spiral elevators, vibratory tables, foundry shakeouts and drawdown hoppers. The products are manufactured at MVT’s prem- ises in Randfontein. Design of the equipment utilises the latest technology available, includ- ing finite element analysis. When Modern Mining recently visited the facility, it was busy with one the biggest screens yet produced by MVT – a 3 050 x 7 625 mm (10 x 24 ft) unit designed for a diamond min- ing customer. Since the visit, the unit has been delivered to site – a considerable logistical exercise given the size of the screen and the remote location of the mine – and installed. Tim points out that while MVT can manufac- ture and supply industry-standard equipment, many of its machines can be considered

They have since been joined in the business by another family member, Bruce Munton. Chris, who also worked for Vibramech for a period, says that MVT’s efforts have met with considerable success. “We now have a strong foothold in the market, not only in South Africa but all over Africa and even further afield,” he says. “We have machines operating in many of the continent’s mining countries, including Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Ghana – where we have an agent – and Mali. We’ve also supplied our products to the UK and the Middle East.” Among significant recent cross-border orders is one placed by a mine in Zambia which saw eight screens being delivered to a tight schedule after being manufactured in just five weeks. “These are our smaller units – each one weighs about 3 tonnes – but this was nevertheless a significant order,” says Chris. “We’re expecting to supply a further 27 machines to the same customer.” Tim adds that MVT has established close relationships with a number of companies that
