LOADERS, EXCAVATORS AND TRUCKS

Largest wheel loader destined for Zambia

K omatsu Mining Corporation, previously Joy Global, is part- nering with First Quantum Minerals (FQM) to supply a P&H L-2350 wheel loader to FQM’s Senti- nel copper mine in Zambia. The P&H L-2350 is designed to achieve greater operating hours due to its robust structural design and modular components and to provide the best possible fuel consumption levels as a result of the power regen- eration capacity of the Joy SR Hybrid Drive technology. The loader also comes equipped with the latest safety features that meet global requirements recognised by leading mining industry safety councils. “The L2350 was selected as our pre- ferred choice for a loader as it is the only wheel loader capable of loading our Ultra Class haul trucks in use at Sentinel Mine. Once operational, it will provide us with a supplementary loading capability that will enhance

With an operating capacity of 72 574 kg, it can centre load haulage trucks with payload ratings ranging from 320 to 400+ tons. our flexibility to sustain our ore feed at the correct quantities and qualities. We look forward to commissioning this mega machine in December 2017, and loading many millions of safe, pro- ductive tonnes of ore with the L2350 loader,” says Morris Rowe, General Manager, Sentinel Mine. Zambia. Its processing facility has a target throughput rate of 55 million tonnes per annum of ore at a life of mine average grade of 0,51 % copper. According to FQM’s report on the quarter to 30 June 2017, Sentinel pro- duced 43 686 tonnes of copper during the three-month period with produc- tion for 2017 expected to be 185 000 tonnes of copper.  Sentinel is located approximately 150 km west of Solwezi in north-west
