Pump range offers new levels of hydraulic efficiency The Krebs slurryMAX™ range of slurry pumps from global minerals process spe- cialist FLSmidth has reportedly brought new levels of hydraulic efficiency to Africa’s slurry operations. industries. Its design is based on the success of FLSmidth’s millMAX™ range of pumps, whose wearing technology has created an efficient and long-lasting slurry pump.

applications, boasting thick elastomer lin- ers and a heavy-duty impeller for extended wear life. The slurryMAX HP is the high- pressure version of this model, and is designed for multistage high pressure pumping systems. Featuring a high pres- sure outer casing, the slurryMAX HP uses all the same wear-resistant parts as the XD, giving consistent performance and long life. Also in the range is the slurryMAX XHP, which enables customers to design pump- ing systems with more stages and a higher final discharge pressure. The XHP uses the same wear parts as its HD and XD counter- parts, but with an even more robust outer casing than the HP version. Predictable and even wear life across all wet-end parts is among the benefits of the slurryMAX pump, as are its heavy- duty shaft and taper roller bearings that cannot be over greased; these long-last- ing bearings are rated at a minimum of 100 000 hours. FLSmidth, website: www.flsmidth.com the impact on customer delivery times, the existing lubrication system for this single component was proving to be very expen- sive both in terms of time and money as it was not dispensing the correct amount of lubricant at one time; the system was either over lubricating and wasting lubri- cant or under lubricating which required the process to be repeated. The innovative lubrication systemdeliv- ered by SKF and Lincoln Lubrication allows for eight bearings to be pre-lubricated simultaneously. “Our solution enabled our customer to run their bearing pre-lubri- cant line eight times faster,” says SKF Key Accounts Manager: Commercial Vehicles, Ettienne Schoeman. The ground-breaking system is pow- ered by a 180 kg St Louis 50:1 pneumatic grease pump, driving an SSV 8 Progressive distribution block, which delivers 0,2 grams per outlet, per cycle. These outlets are indi- vidually connected to 8 x VKN 550 bearing holders which lubricate 8 x hm 518445 bearings. The system, implemented in April 2018, is already showing positive results and delivering savings for SKF’s customer. SKF South Africa, tel (+27 11) 821-3500

The slurryMAX features an improved, more efficient impeller and an optional water drain plug for easier maintenance, allowing water that might have settled at the bottom of the pump to be quickly drained. In the slurryMAX 8 x 6 pump and larger units, a simple removable suction liner assembly allows for easy inspections of the internal components, as well as the replacement of the impeller without removing the discharge pipe. In addition, the volute liner has an integrated back liner that bolts securely to the outer drive side-casing. This makes for easier and hands-free assembly, improving the safety aspects of the pump. Maintenance crews will also appreciate the easy-to-use lifting jig, for faster and safer rebuilds. Other models in the slurryMAX range include the XD version for aggressive

A seamless bearing lubrication solution from SKF, in partnership with Lincoln Lubrication South Africa, has helped to significantly speed up the production line for a key OEM customer and leading local Lubrication system speeds up production trailer manufacturer and supplier. The ability to lubricate only one bearing at a time on the production line for heavy duty vehicle trailer axles was causing the manufacturer severe delays. In addition to

The new impeller is particularly useful in applications with critical inlet conditions such as boiler feed applications, as well as applications in which the pump is required to take in water from low-lying tanks or at higher temperatures. These conditions are not always suitable for standard pumps, as pressure drop in the intake area can cause cavitation in the first pump stage, resulting in excessive wear of pump parts or motor bearings as well as a reduced service life of the pump due to damaged parts and an unbalanced hydraulic system. The new impeller features a modified inlet diam- eter, vanes that allow a slightly diagonal throughflow and a newly designed stage casing, all of which serve to substantially improve the pump’s NPSH curve. The multistage centrifugal pumps from KSB’s Movitec range are designed for handling fluids such as water, coolants, con- densate and mineral oils. KSB Pumps and Valves, website: www.ksbpumps.co.za
