Because Beowolf Mining places high emphasis on research and development for technical, endurance and value for money regarding specific geological applications, it started tests with its new interlocking system. UPDATE ON BEOWOLF MINING’S NEW INTERLOCKING SYSTEM

T his is the interlocking system between drill bit and drill rod for top hammer drill applications regarding underground and open pit mine use. With the new interlock system, the loss of drill bits is significantly reduced. On the current tests which involve T51 drilling equipment, the tests are very promising. Beowolf Mining also established less wear on the part of the rod nearest to the drill bit. After finalisation of the tests, Beowolf Mining will be in a position to give customers a complete customised package regarding drilling equipment on top hammer drill applications. This will include drill bit design regarding flushing, carbide selection, gauge hardness etc. “We will keep our existing and potential customers up to date with progress and final results in due course,” says Riaan Theron, Beowolf Mining’s Director of Sales. “On the down the hole drilling range of products we also improved our technical flexibility regarding

hammer application. We are now in a position to make customised changes on the outer cylinders regarding thickness, different material alloys and the use of carbide welding methods on the external cylinder as well as the drive chuck to slow wear down,” Theron says. These technical applications can be done within a short time to suit the customers’ needs. “Combined with our drilling equipment management App, we are confident that with the correct products and paperless management system, drilling costs can be maintained to the minimum,” he expands. “Our aim is to make the necessary technical changes on products that will face difficult drilling conditions fast to enable a quick turnaround time regarding availability,” Theron says. Once the correct product applications are established, Beowolf Mining will ensure adequate inventory at its offices in Rustenburg (Northwest Province) and Kathu (Northern Cape Province). l
