HAULING • 3 x Dezzi ADTs (25 t & two 30 t)

PROCESSING • 1 x Osborn Engineering crusher plant • 1 x IMS Engineering sorter plant • 1 x IMS Engineering sand plant

• The production process starts in the pit where a 35 t Komatsu 350 excavator loads three Dezzi ADTs • The three ADTs then haul material from the pit to the processing plant over a 1,5 km distance • Of that 1,5 km hauling cycle, half of it is uphill and laden. The haul road is a 5,74-degree slope, which makes it a difficult application • Equipment availability is sitting at 98% • Production is at its peak in the two years of operation, and preparation of the second pit, for expansion purposes, is already underway SITE HIGHLIGHTS

Contractors, a brick and block- making company located a stone’s throw away from Rossmin, is using material from the quarry. The competitive advantage of Rossmin’s limestone product is that it gives the supplier a footprint across many markets, and some

which is already sourcing 30% of its limestone needs from Rossmin. Mine manager Fana Shozi tells Modern Quarrying that the mine has also started supplying its limestone product to the construction sector, but only on a trial basis. For example, ABB

only commenced some two years ago. Rossmin’s key target market is the agricultural sector, mainly the sugarcane farms that surround the area. It has, however, started to make some inroads into the industrial sector, to have a good balance of its business, and one of the key customers in that regard is Sappi,
