SCHNEIDER TeSys D Green OFFERS REDUCED ENERGY CONSUMPTION

WACO INDUCTION GEYSER THE WACO induction geyser is a low capacity outlay which is easy to install and saves up to 30% electricity. It takes two and a half hours and uses 7.8 kW of electricity to heat a conventional 150 ℓ geyser from 20 to 65°C. Heat- ing the same amount of water using the Waco induction water heater takes approximately two and a half hours, using 5 kWh of electricity, nearly ²/3 of the cost of a con- ventional geyser. Features include: • Split magnetic induction water heating • Wall mounted installation T he Allianz Climate and Energy Monitor 2017 ranked South Africa 10 th among G20 countries for renewable energy investment conditions. It scored high for its depth of capital markets, even though a high inflation fore- cast brought down the overall score. The country has steadily increased its renewables capacity in the past years and has a relatively high presence of leading renewable energy business. The Allianz Climate and Energy Monitor 2017 examined the needs and investment climate for all G20 countries regarding renewable energy. Germany, UK and France maintain the top three positions in the 2017 edition. They combine a largely sup- portive policy environment for renewable energy with a mature market and adequate general investment environment. China holds its place in this best-performers club, maintain- ing fourth position. With soaring renewable energy markets and a consistent policy push, China installed more solar pho- to-voltaic than the rest of the G20 combined in 2016. India,

The Waco induction geyser will pay for itself within a year. It offers quick access to hot water, a Class 2 safety rating, elimi- nating the risk of water damage, and requires a 15 A wall plug.

SOUTH AFRICA RANKS 10 TH FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY

South Africa, Brazil and Indonesia emerge as high-need hot- spots owing to increasing demand for energy, sheer size and vulnerability of the existing power system to a changing cli- mate. “Emerging economies are increasingly taking on a lead- ership role and are credibly enhancing their renewable energy financing frameworks”, says Simone Ruiz-Vergote, managing director at Allianz Climate Solutions. “China, India and South Africa are keenly interested in improving their attractiveness for investors in renewable energy, and they clearly managed to do so in 2016. Their prospects are good if policy support and market capacities are maintained.” South Africa has a national strategy to tackle climate change. However, the country needs to increase its ambition level and put together a plan to decarbonise the electricity sector. The current auctioning system available in the coun- try is insufficient to create a level-playing field for renewables compared to the fossil-fuel electricity infrastructure.

SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC has upgraded its TeSys D range with the TeSys D Green range that features lower energy consumption and ac/dc coils, meaning every coil can be energised with either ac or dc current. Making it easy for customers to upgrade and gain the improved energy efficiencies, the range is backward compatible with all current TeSys D accessories and support products and offers consistent low-energy contactors that handle 9 to 80 A, and cover control voltages from 24 to 500 V ac or dc.

Designed to take up less space in machines and electrical cabinets, the range offers a number of advantages. For example, low control current leads to lower energy consumption with a reduced coil power of just 0.5W at 24 V dc, making a major contribution to the energy efficiency of a machine. In addition, a special contactor product that handles 40 to 65 A and can connect directly to PLC control, as the device can be driven by a common 24 V dc/500 mA static output, means that a relay interface is no longer required. Meeting the SEMI F47 standard, the range offers higher resistance to voltage surges and grid disruptions to provider higher uptime. The contactors also offer reduced contact bounce as the devices retain the same high resistance to shock and vibration as the TeSys D range. Other advantages include a constant closing and opening time, regardless of voltage fluctuation, delivering reliable repetitive actuation. Also, when maintenance is required one TeSys D Green can replace many standard contactors. The range is available from RS Components.

sun2roof SOLAR ENERGY INSTALLATIONS IN GUYANA

F ollowing the successful completion of a 43 kWp solar rooftop installation on the State House in Georgetown, Guyana, The meeco Group has been contracted to equip the roofs of 57 government-owned buildings with its clean energy solution, sun2roof. “We are delighted to have been awarded the tender for

the installation of, in total, 740 kWp on diverse roofs of gov- ernment-owned facilities such as schools, police stations, administration buildings, health centres and ministries,” says Thomas Beindorf, chief technical officer of The meeco Group. “The management and execution of a clean energy project depends on quality cooperation with local colleagues and

partners. Cooperation with the government of Guy- ana and local teams dur- ing the installation phase of the sun2roof system for the State House was highly professional, so we look forward to the new projects ahead of us.” sun2roof is one of meeco’s most successful clean energy solutions. It offers complete flexibility in terms of design require- ments and customisable roof-mounted solar energy modules; a power inverter with an interface to meeco’s energy monitoring system sun2see; and the option to connect the solar solu- tion to the national grid. This environment-friendly approach takes Guyana a further step on the path towards a greener energy supply and a decreasing dependence on polluting fossil fuels, such as diesel and gas.
