A BEACON OF LIGHT SHINES ON TEMBISA LEARNERS

BEKA Schréder joined the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to hand over a computer research lab to Moipone Academy Science Centre (MASC) in Tembisa. The lack of information and exposure available for school learners motivated Joseph Taetsane to campaign for a science and information centre in the township of Tembisa and, on 29 November, BEKA Schréder handed over an after-school computer research lab and became the first private entity to invest in the only science centre in the East Rand. The lab will assist with access to information for school learners and much needed computer skills for unemployed youth in the community.

BEKA Schréder general manager, Wimpie Ludwick stressed the need for access to network and connectivity and pledged extra support for MASC’s connectivity, a ‘second phase’ to the existing project. MASC will use the computer lab for after-school programmes for computer literacy and in-house activity programmes, such as Robotics, using CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) to design car models for the Jaguar Primary School competition. School teachers will be taught modern ways of imparting knowledge, soft skills in office suite programs, and creating data sheets and presentations. “BEKA Schréder has been honoured to be part of this initiative. It is not only in line with our

S ecurity lighting has changed drastically in recent years, from twisty bulbs to efficient LED fittings. Major Tech has introduced a new economical range of LED floodlights, which incorporate high power LED chips capable of producing a high lumen output and that have been designed as a replacement for traditional floodlights. The choice of LED floodlights over traditional floodlights means energy savings and overall better lighting. Major Tech’s LFB LED floodlight range is designed to ensure low heat emissions,a long lifespan (around 25 000 hours) and improved visibility. The LFB LED floodlight range is a slimline, compact design and is designed as a replacement for traditional floodlights. The glass cover is 4 mm strengthened clear glass that is waterproof and resistant to all environmental factors such as humidity. The lighting source is made up of high power SMD LEDs that are directly connected to the aluminium shell, which ensures low heat emission and a longer lifespan. These quality corrosion- resistant IP65 LED COST EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS FOR LED FLOODLIGHTS

floodlights are available in 10 W and 20 W. Features include a 120° beam angle; >0.9 power factor; and 4 000 K daylight colour temperature.
